The Department of Chemistry within the Faculty of Science invites applications for a CHEM 551 Sessional Instructor in the Winter 2025 term. The successful candidate will have responsibilities for instruction of lectures (3h per week) and one tutorial section (1h per week) and associated duties for this 3-unit course.

Course Description: CHEM 551 - Organic Synthesis

Concepts and strategies of synthesizing molecules with emphasis on carbon-carbon bond-forming reactions, protecting groups, chemo-, regio- and stereoselectivity.

Winter 2025 Term Dates: Monday, January 6, 2025 - Wednesday, April 30, 2025

Teaching Schedule: Lectures M/W/F 12-12:50pm; Tutorial Tuesday 9:30-10:20am

Delivery Mode: All components will be delivered in-person

Qualifications: Candidates must have a Ph.D. in chemistry and a strong, substantial record demonstrating teaching excellence. The appointees will be expected to remain abreast of current developments in science, particularly in Chemistry. Previous experience in teaching CHEM courses at UCalgary (especially organic chemistry courses) is an important asset. Familiarity with the campus learning management system, D2L, is valuable.
