The Faculty of Science at the University of Calgary invites applications for a 1/3 Sessional Instructor (12 lectures, 0.33 HCE) for the Winter 2025 term.  The successful candidate will be responsible for 1/3 of the instruction and any other associated duties for the NEUR 511 course.

NEUR 511 - Neuroscience Seminar
This course offers students the opportunity to learn about cutting edge neuroscience research findings directly from those conducting the experiments. Students will attend the weekly neuroscience seminar series hosted by the Hotchkiss Brain Institute (HBI). The course component will then provide an opportunity for students to discuss and critically evaluate what was presented at the seminar.


The successful applicant will be responsible for leading discussions and administering evaluation components for 1 class per week.
Applicants are also required to attend the weekly HBI seminars, but this time commitment will not be included in the duties of the successful applicant.

Teaching Schedule: MoWe 12:00PM - 12:50PM
HBI Seminar: Fri 12:00PM - 12:50PM

Delivery Mode: All course components will be delivered in-person.


Winter 2025 Term Dates: January 13, 2025, to April 11, 2025.

Qualifications:

  • A Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in neuroscience, neurobiology, neurochemistry, or a related field.
  • Prior experience teaching at the university level, with a strong track record of effectively communicating complex scientific concepts to diverse student audiences.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a talent for making intricate material accessible and engaging.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and dynamic educational environment that supports and values diverse perspectives and backgrounds.

The BSc Neuroscience program is an extra-departmental, multidisciplinary honours program offered by the Faculty of Science in conjunction with the Faculty of Arts (Department of Psychology), the Cummins School of Medicine (CSM), and the Hotchkiss Brain Research Institute (HBI). As per the Collective Agreement, the Neuroscience Program will adhere to the right of first refusal terms (Section 23.12.1 and 23.12.2) for Sessional Appointments.
