The School of Creative and Performing Arts (SCPA), Division of Drama invites applications for Sessional Instructors to teach the following courses in the Winter 2025.

The Winter 2025 term runs from January 6 to April 30, 2025, Individual course dates are noted below; please see the academic schedule for additional important dates and deadlines.

NOTE: THE FOLLOWING COURSE OFFERINGS ARE TENTATIVE, PENDING FUNDING AND SUFFICIENT ENROLMENTS.

NOTE:  THERE MAY BE CANDIDATES WITH THE RIGHT OF FIRST REFUSAL (TUCFA Collective Agreement 23.12).


Winter 2025

THEATRE STUDIES

DRAM 205: Story

Course Description: An exploration of the elements of story present in the arts and beyond. Story is an exciting, creative, dynamic and universal form of human expression with the potential to engage and inspire students from across departments and disciplines.
Course Dates: January 13 - April 11, 2025

1 section available: Tuesdays and Thursdays 15:30 - 16:45

Required qualifications:

  • PhD or Master's in Drama and/or Interdisciplinary field of study
  • Proven ability to deliver interdisciplinary curriculum to students from across a range of disciplines and subject areas.
  • Evidence of expertise and successful teaching record for large courses and experience grading academic writing
  • Experience designing and delivering web-based courses; proficiency with online instruction tools (e.g., Zoom, Yuja, D2L, etc.) 
  • National recognition through professional publication and/or professional awards across multiple print genres - i.e., drama, fiction, poetry, etc.
  • Demonstrated professional practice across multiple media¿i.e., print, live performance, film, radio, etc.
  • Expertise in contemporary approaches to creative writing and critical analysis
  • Experience and knowledge of non-traditional practices preferred; experience working with Indigenous, Black or BIPOC theatre companies considered an asset.
  • Significant teaching experience and demonstrated ability to deliver curriculum at the post-secondary level.

DESIGN

DRAM 631 Practicum in Design

Course Description: Supervised, experiential pre-thesis learning, designing lighting, sound, properties, set, or costumes for a production at the School of Creative and Performing Arts.
Course Dates: January 13 - April 11, 2025
Times: TBA

Required qualifications:

  • MFA in Drama with a Design specialization and/or significant experience in professional theatre design with professional membership in ADC (Associated Designers of Canada).
  • Experience and knowledge of non-traditional practices of theatre-making preferred; experience working with IBPOC theatre companies and communities considered an asset.
  • Significant teaching experience and demonstrated ability to deliver curriculum at the post-secondary level with requisite theoretical and practical approaches.
  • Experience supervising and work with graduate students.
