The Faculty of Chemical & Petroleum Engineering in the Department of Engineering at the University of Calgary is accepting applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar in the Life Cycle and Techno-economic Assessment (LCA and TEA) of Direct Air Capture (DAC). This post-doc will be part of the CanCO2Re initiative (www.canco2re.ca).
Job Description:
The successful applicant will focus on system-level design and optimization, techno-economic assessment (TEA), and life cycle assessment (LCA) of Direct Air Capture (DAC) technologies. They will work closely with project investigators, who have expertise in the science and engineering of DAC and LCA and TEA of emerging technologies. The Postdoctoral Scholar will work closely with CanCO2Re investigators at both the University of Calgary and University of Alberta. They will primarily conduct modeling studies but will have the opportunity to collaborate with researchers conducting laboratory experiments. In addition, they will be expected to mentor graduate (PhD and MSc) students working on related projects.
The Postdoctoral Scholar¿s research will aim to develop models that, given materials properties, optimize design of DAC cycles and systems to minimize cost and environmental impact. While the research will focus on continuing development of existing models for solvent-based processes as well as development of models for alternative processes (e.g., electro-swing). The aim of this research is to convert early-stage technology concepts into practical systems and assess the prospective environmental and economic performance of such systems.
