Description

The Department of Emergency Medicine in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Research Coordinator. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 18 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

This position reports to the Principal Investigator.  

The Research Coordinators primary purpose is to support the Principle Investigator and the research team through the coordination and administration of the research program and related projects.  This position works closely with the Principle Investigator in the areas of analytics and reporting, in the development of documents and proposals for the purpose of presentations and publication, as well as the research grant application process.  These roles may be called upon to act as a liaison for the Principle Investigator and the Research Project.

The Research Coordinator will develop project timelines, monitor project deadlines and outcomes, and be responsible for project closeout processes. These roles may provide guidance and direction to administrative and research staff, supporting collaboration with other related research projects, and ensuring that resources, such as specialized equipment, workspaces, and supplies are maintained and readily available.  Success in the role will require judgment and decision making, following procedures and guidelines set by the PI, and collaboration with the research team.

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Responsible for the coordination and administration of research programs or projects
  • In collaboration with the Principle Investigator, develop the structure, objectives, and policies of the research project, evaluating research activities and recommending improvements when appropriate
  • Working closely with the Principle Investigator in the coordination of project resources
  • Monitor research funding and budgeting resources , collaborating with the Principle Investigator and Research Accounting
  • Be able to support the production of quarterly reports to health authorities
  • Provide support for smaller research projects to determine understanding of a novel intervention
  • Responsible for coordinating research staff and volunteers, including the delegation of tasks and duties
  • Develop project timelines, monitor and control of project deadlines and outcomes, and closeout of projects
  • Provide research support, produce reports, and administer research policies and procedures
  • Conduct statistical analyses to determine cost and effectiveness of research activities and processes, recommending and implementing improvements as appropriate
  • Responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of work spaces and labs, ensuring facilities are stocked with supplies and clean
  • Work closely with the Principle Investigator in areas of analytics and reporting, in the development of documents and proposals for the purpose of presentation and publication
  • Contributes to and assists in submitting research grant proposals, may be required to act on behalf of the Principle Investigator to granting agencies, or other internal or external agencies

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Health Sciences, Community Health Sciences required
  • Master's Degree in Health Sciences, Community Health Sciences an asset
  • Minimum of 3 years related experience and completion of post secondary education in related discipline
  • Specialized certification - TCPS 2 and GCP required
  • Transportation of Dangerous good certification an asset
  • A combination of education, training and experience may be considered
  • Advanced skills in Qualtrics Survey Platform and be able to lead quantitative and qualitative evaluations
  • Be able to conduct focus groups and do qualitative analysis
  • Additional background in Quality Improvement and Implementation Science would be seen favorably
  • Extensive knowledge of theory and practical application of research policies and procedures
  • Ability to plan and direct research and administrative activities within a team environment
  • Ability to provide support to other members of the team and related units or teams
  • Ability to solve complex problems
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, Powerpoint)
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Knowledge of research ethics and regulations for granting agencies (e.g. Tri Council)
  • Demonstrated proficiency in budgeting, resource planning and grant applications
  • Demonstrated ability in professional writing, preparing reports and conducting literature reviews for the purpose of presentation and publication
