Description
The Haskayne School of Business is currently seeking a Full-time Limited Term Program Advisor, Innovation for approximately 1 year.
This position reports to the Haskayne Centres' Associate Director, Programs, and will manage the implementation and execution of the Haskayne Centres' entrepreneurship and innovation-specific programming and initiatives.The position is expected to improve knowledge retention and student engagement and helps students bridge the gap between theory and professional practice. The incumbent will keep current with trends in experiential learning and trends in entrepreneurship and innovation.
The Program Advisor, Innovation is responsible for the successful execution of existing programs, and continuous improvement of programs and initiatives under the direction of the Associate Director, Programs and with the support of the Community Engagement Lead. This position manages programs through the entire programming cycle, including the following phases: needs assessment/diagnostic, delivery, evaluation, and reporting. This process involves extensive stakeholder engagement, data collection and effective project management.
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
Program and Project Management
- Consults with the Haskayne Centres team and stakeholders to determine programming objectives and take responsibility for planning the scope and format of said programming
- Fully responsible for the planning and execution of multiple initiatives, including large-scale events and programming that are evolving and long-term in nature; the focus is on relevant, meaningful community engagement and impactful student experiences connected to these opportunities
- Increase awareness of the relevant centres, particularly the Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation and the Trico Foundation Centre for Social Entrepreneurship, across all programs (MBA, Master of Management, BComm)
- In coordination with Haskayne School of Business colleagues, is responsible for ensuring that program and logistics and preparations (such as virtual and in-person venue arrangements, catering, signage, invitations, accommodations, transportation, etc.) are organized, documented, communicated, and implemented
- Develops timelines, prepares all collateral (program brief, speaking notes, presentations, invitations, etc.) and provides information to all relevant stakeholders by telephone, email or in person prior to and throughout the program
- With knowledge of professional development activities for students and faculty in the entrepreneurship and innovation industry in Calgary and Alberta, seek out partnerships and opportunities for collaboration
- Coordinate the collection of metrics related to community engagement initiatives to inform the Centres¿ strategic plans, continuous improvement and donor stewardship and reporting
Leadership in Experiential Learning for Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programs
- Support and promote experiential learning within the faculty and to stakeholders
- Remain current in emerging experiential learning theory and practice, such as service learning, work-based learning, action research, and community-based learning
- Research and design experiential learning strategies and processes
- In collaboration with the Haskayne Centres team, engage current and prospective community partners to advance experiential learning opportunities within the entrepreneurship and innovation portfolio
- Work collaboratively with faculty and administration to nurture relationships with external stakeholders; this includes identifying students for key external opportunities and facilitating connections to these opportunities
- Engage local, regional, national, and global communities through the implementation of Centres¿ initiatives
- Demonstrate creativity and initiative to support continuous improvement and encourage positive outcome
Collaborating and Advising
- Work collaboratively with the Student Services team and Executive Education to support opportunities to advance in-class experiential learning
- Provide support as needed to the ENTI Teaching Assistants in relation to the courses supported by the Haskayne Centres
- With support and guidance from the Community Engagement Lead, recruit entrepreneurial advisors for programs and initiatives
- Guide community partners and students through the Haskayne Centres' experiential learning process and approach
- Support the development of opportunities for collaboration and partnership with leading local, national, and international academic institutions and organizations active in the entrepreneurship and innovation industry
- Actively engage Haskayne alumni
- Advise students and guide them in finding appropriate resources and opportunities that maximize their development as it relates to entrepreneurship and innovation, with support from the Associate Director, Programs
Qualifications / Requirements:
- An undergraduate degree, certificate, or diploma in event management, business, or related to entrepreneurship and innovation is required
- 3 or more years of experience working with program delivery, event or project management is required
- Knowledge of experiential learning programs and best practices is considered an asset
- Knowledge of and experience in entrepreneurship and innovation is considered an asset
- Demonstrated experience in developing collaborative relationships with both internal and external stakeholders is required
- Strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills to deal effectively with complex tasks and issues are required
- Proven ability to meet competing and concurrent deadlines in a fast-paced environment with constantly shifting priorities required
- Strong skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office required
- The ability to collaborate with faculty and staff to enhance the student learning experience and increase engagement is required
- Ability to establish personal credibility within Haskayne School of Business and the University of Calgary is required
- Proven record of excellence in building and maintaining successful business relationships with all stakeholders is crucial to the success of this role
- Strong interpersonal skills and proven record of ability to work collaboratively, nurturing positive working relationships with faculty, staff, and community partners is critical to the success of this role
- Knowledge of University academic policies and regulations, including copyright and FOIP, is an asset
