Description

The Department of Community Health Sciences in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Research Assistant. This Fixed Term Recurring Part-time position is for approximately 6 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

The Research Assistant will work with the Principal Investigator to conduct a mixed methods study of the I Can For Kids Grocery Gift Card Program. The Research Assistant will plan the study, recruit participants, deliver the intervention, collect and analyze data, and write a stakeholder report and a peer-reviewed journal article summarizing study findings. The Research Assistant will work remotely and will require a personal vehicle for data collection. Travel costs will be reimbursed.

The Research Assistant will work both independently and in a team environment. Success in the role will require excellent knowledge of the public health nutrition and food insecurity literatures, strong research planning and organizational skills, the ability to independently collect and analyze qualitative and quantitative data, and experience working with lower-income or other marginalized groups.

Recurring Part-time employees are hourly employees engaged to perform work on an irregular schedule.

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Under the general supervision and direction of the PI, develop and implement a research study protocol
  • Collect data via questionnaires and semi-structured interviews
  • Analyze quantitative and qualitative data
  • Produce a peer-reviewed journal article for publication and a final stakeholder report

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Masters degree in public health, nutrition or a related field
  • Knowledge of public health, health equity and food insecurity research
  • Demonstrated ability in academic written and verbal communication
  • Ability to conduct research and research activities independently and within a team environment
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Experience conducting semi-structured interviews and analyzing quantitative and qualitative data
  • Experience writing first author, peer-reviewed journal articles for publication
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, including the ability to work independently
  • Able to multitask, high attention to detail
  • Open to learning and development and willing to accept new challenges and assignments
  • Well organized and able to lead a research study with little supervision
  • Experience conducting mixed methods research in community settings
  • Experience working with stakeholders in community organizations
  • Experience working with lower-income and other marginalized groups in community settings
  • A valid Class 5 driver¿s license with proven good driving record (abstract required).
