UCalgary Continuing Education is currently seeking a Full-time Limited Term Business Intelligence Analyst for approximately 6 months.

Reporting to the Director, Business Operations, this position provides support to senior leadership, programming teams and central services units within Continuing Education.  The incumbent will be responsible for driving the creation a comprehensive data-enabled reporting and analytics platform. Attention to detail and high degree of consultative and development support to enhance the decision-making ability of staff is a primary goal of this position. This position typically works a 35 hour week from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

Data Analysis and End User Support 

  • Perform data analysis using statistical tools to identify patterns, trends, and relationships in the data.
  • Research, develop, modify, and deploy data-collection processes.
  • Assesses market strategies by analyzing related products, markets, or trends.
  • Compile business intelligence or trends to support actionable recommendations.
  • Engage in business analysis and consulting with users and other technical groups.
  • Deliver consulting services, identifying appropriate alternatives and workflows that enable the systems to support the business requirements.
  • Provide training and technical support to staff in the use of reporting tools and platforms that enable independent reporting activities.
  • Analyze data before releasing report findings and data-driven recommendations to staff for decision making.
  • Provide advice to staff, recommending controls by identifying gaps or problems and providing details regarding improved procedures and use of technologies.
  • Collaborate regularly with various departments and staff members, including the marketing and customer service teams.
  • Interact with staff to evaluate reporting environment performance and identify areas of improvement.

Report Development

  • Perform edit, transform and load (ETL) functions with data from multiple sources.
  • Compile and summarize enrolment, financial and economic data to create reports for review by staff and appropriate stakeholders.
  • Develop and prioritize reports and user interfaces that promote self-serve reporting.
  • Perform data visualization by creating charts, graphs, and dashboards to make data findings easier to share and understand.
  • Preparing data through cleaning and filtering data and handling missing values to ensure accuracy.
  • Gather business intelligence from a variety of sources including company data, industry and field reports, public information, or purchased sources.
  • Develop/refine policies and techniques for gathering and analyzing data.
  • Review and validate incoming and outgoing data.
  • Work in conjunction with internal and external entities to set up software and upgrades that simplify how the organization leverages data usage.

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, management, computer science, information or data science/analytics, or a combination of related education and work experience.
  • Three to five years customer service experience with excellent customer service and communication skills, managing user expectations, issues and resolutions.
  • Ability to transform data into information.
  • Working knowledge and expertise of business intelligence reporting tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI), processes, and methodologies.
  • Demonstrated experience in database, web development, networking, and advanced PC knowledge, including Microsoft SQL, JSON, Python, and R
  • Experience with Web Programming is required (E.g., HTML, PHP, CSS, JavaScript).
  • Knowledge of connecting third party APIs & Web Services to data sources.
  • Knowledge of gathering user requirements, building use cases for the development or upgrade of business-specific applications.
  • Ability to translate technical terminology and exercise patience when responding to repetitious end user requests.
  • Solid understanding and use of development methodologies such as SDLC and Agile development in the creation of software applications.
  • Experience with Survey Tools.
  • Ability to learn new software programs quickly.
  • Positive attitude and demonstrated ability to be a collaborative team member.
  • Ability to manage time and prioritize multiple tasks independently.
