The Werklund School of Education, Undergraduate Programs, at the University of Calgary invites applications for term-certain Sessional Instructor positions for Winter 2025.

We are seeking 2 Out-of-Area Field Instructors to support Community-Based Bachelor of Education pathway students in the Red Deer area and north of Edmonton, including Athabasca region, Alberta.

Position Requirements

  • Ability to travel to student placement communities.
  • Commitment to in-person student visits, supported by online meetings and supervision.
  • Access to a vehicle with insurance coverage compliant with the University's Driver Safety Standard policy.
  • Flexibility to support students primarily online with occasional travel to communities, assisted by local partners.
  • Preparedness for travel, including drives of at least two hours round-trip (mileage reimbursed) and potential overnight stays (reimbursed on a case-by-case basis).
  • Educational Qualifications: Completed master's degree in education preferred; bachelor's degree considered (doctoral degree is an asset).
  • At least five years of successful teaching experience at the elementary/secondary level.
  • Strong collaboration skills with school and community members.
  • Demonstrated history of ongoing professional development, creativity, and flexibility.
  • Experience as a partner teacher, community partner, or school liaison is preferred.
  • Familiarity with the undergraduate education program, inquiry-based teaching, and learning approaches is an asset.

Field Experience Overview

EDUC 465: Field Experience II [Practicum - Out-of-Area Placements]

This block field experience, running from March 17 to April 25, 2025, focuses on individual learning complexities. Teacher candidates will observe and engage with students across classrooms under guidance from field instructors and school leadership teams.

Geographic Regions for Field Instructors:

  • Red Deer or Olds, Alberta: Supporting students in communities like Rocky Mountain House, Drumheller, and Stettler.
  • Athabasca, Alberta: Supporting students in communities like Lac la Biche, Morinville, and Westlock.

Employment Details
While all applications are welcome, some candidates may have the right of first refusal per Article 23.12.1 of the University of Calgary Faculty Association Collective Agreement.
