The Department of Cell Biology & Anatomy in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for 3 Student Creator(s). This Fixed Term Recurring Part-time position is for approximately 1 year (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

The Anatomy Video and Imagery Diversity (AVID) project is a joint initiative between UCalgary and the University of Windsor

This position will create and develop new content to establish a diverse repository of anatomical images used for medical teaching by providing a zero-cost alternative to traditionally expensive anatomical textbooks, and further to provide paid opportunities for students who are historically underrepresented in health sciences and allied health education to develop their own educational leadership and to provide opportunities for visibility and representation for these students in the anatomical sciences.

The Student Creator reports to the Principal Investigator for the Anatomy and Video Imagery Diversity (AVID) Project and works closely with the other project collaborators, including the Principal Investigator at the University of Windsor. 

This is a recurring part-time position.  Recurring Part-time employees are hourly employees engaged to perform work on an irregular schedule.  

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Produce high-quality images and video content following templates agreed upon with the project collaborators
  • Provide high quality digital files for upload to the AVID repository
  • Liaise with PIs, Project Leads and content subjects

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Minimum, enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program or equivalent in health sciences or similar area. A Bachelors degree or higher is an asset
  • Demonstrated capability to produce medical teaching-quality images and video content for use in health professions education
  • Experience using digital illustration technology/software is strongly preferred
  • Background in medical illustration and/or digital content creation is highly desirable
  • Self-identification as a member of an equity-denied group
  • Self-identification as a health professions learner
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with emphasis on inclusivity and accessibility
