Description

The Haskayne School of Business is currently seeking a Full-time Limited Term Instructional Designer for approximately 2 years.

This position reports to the Manager, Graduate Programs, and will work jointly with faculty and external service providers to plan and execute on the development of asynchronous online courses for business programs. The Instructional Designer will act as project manager for the development of the asynchronous online courses, including working with faculty and external service providers. As a professional in this knowledge area, the Instructional Designer needs to be well-versed in various instructional methods and technologies, evaluation and assessment instruments, and be willing to learn and test new ones. Also, this individual will administer and maintain the applications supported by the UCCIT related online learning technologies. 

The primary hours of work are Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, 7 hours per day (35 hours per week); however, there may be a demand to work outside of these hours. The Instructional Designer is part of the AUPE Collective Bargaining Unit.

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Work with external vendors to support the subject matter expert's (SME) content creation to transform it into meaningful learning experiences.
  • Design and modify instructional materials for asynchronous online learning using best practices for student learning and engagement.
  • Research and implement innovative ways to present content to ensure learning experience quality.
  • Ensure consistency across content, courses, learning outcomes, assessments, and grading methods in terms of instructional design, based on project requirements.
  • Assist with the instructional multimedia production of content and supporting materials.
  • Create surveys, polls, and assessments using institutional tools.
  • Use the applications supported by UCCIT and the Taylor Institute related to online learning and assessment, as well as custom tools integrated with the D2L Brightspace learning management system, and others.
  • Gather feedback on student experience in the online courses, providing advice and feedback to the instructor of record so that they can implement solutions to enhance student experience.
  • Test training materials and write documentation to support learning methodologies for students and instructors.
  • Maintain current knowledge of new and emerging learning practices in higher and adult education.
  • Provide how-to training sessions and consultation for instructors and staff on best practices in asynchronous online learning.

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Master's degree in Education, Instructional Design, Distance Learning or equivalent with proven experience designing online courses is required.
  • Minimum 5-10 years' directly related experience within the instructional design and distant learning space is required.
  • Proficiency in a wide range of online learning technology platforms such as D2L Brightspace, Articulate 360, etc.
  • Advanced skills in video editing and post-production.
  • Experience with workshop design, facilitation, and presentation.
  • Knowledge of and desire to participate in producing social media content.
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate learning methodologies and technologies to support effective teaching and learning practices in asynchronous online courses.
  • Demonstrated ability to complete project deliverables, managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while focusing on producing results within the timelines and assuring quality standards.
  • Strong analytical, diagnostic problem-solving skills with an eye for proposing new ideas that add value to the organization.
  • Experience utilizing collaborative tools such as OneDrive, Teams, Qualtrics and Zoom.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Professional Office (Word online, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to present ideas to various audiences.
  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to achieving team, unit and organizational goals.
  • High degree of flexibility, responsiveness, and professionalism.
