The School of Creative and Performing Arts (SCPA), Division of Music invites applications for Sessional Instructors to teach the following course(s) in the Winter 2026.

The Winter 2026 term runs from January 5 to April 30, 2026, Individual course dates are noted below; please see the academic schedule for additional important dates and deadlines.

NOTE: THE FOLLOWING COURSE OFFERINGS ARE TENTATIVE, PENDING FUNDING AND SUFFICIENT ENROLMENTS.

NOTE: THERE MAY BE CANDIDATES WITH THE RIGHT OF FIRST REFUSAL (TUCFA Collective Agreement 23.12).

Current Offerings for Winter 2026

MUED 403 Instrumental and Band Techniques II

Two sessional instructors hired at 0.5 HCE each ¿ one position is available for brass instructors and the other is for percussion instructors.

Winter 2026 January 12 - April 14, 2026
Tuesdays and Thursdays 11:00 -12:15

Course Description: Continuation of Music Education 401. Musical and practical aspects of band conducting, including teaching skills, curriculum, and appropriate teaching strategies.

Qualifications/Requirements:

• At least a master's degree in Music and/or equivalent professional experience
• Experience teaching brass instruments (successful candidate will only be required for half of the semester), or experience teaching percussion instruments (successful candidate will only be required for half of the semester)
• Experience teaching music in the schools at either the elementary or secondary level
• Significant teaching experience and demonstrated ability to deliver curriculum at the post-secondary level

MUSI 325B Musicianship II

Winter 2025 - January 13 - April 11
Monday, Wednesday, Friday 9:00 - 9:50

Course Description: Further development of skills in rhythm, intonation and sight-singing. Performance of two-part contrapuntal exercises with chromatic modulation. Introduction to atonal exercises. This term is devoted to performative improvisation in both contemporary art music and jazz.

Qualifications/Requirements:

• Doctoral degree in music and/or equivalent professional experience.
• Strong aural and rhythmic skills and knowledge of soflège systems.
• Significant experience with performative improvisation.
• Keyboard skills are a strong asset.
• Significant teaching experience and demonstrated ability to deliver curriculum at the post-secondary level.  Experience supervising and mentoring graduate student assistants.

MUSI 332 Music History and Literature III

Winter 2026 - January 12 - April 14
Monday and Wednesday, 14:30 - 15:45

Course Description: Music from the Modern Era.

Qualifications/Requirements:

• Doctoral degree in Music with a specialization in Music History and/or equivalent professional experience 
• Demonstrated ability to deliver a music history curriculum at the post-secondary level to students from a wide variety of backgrounds.

MUSI 343 Composition II

Winter 2026 - January 12 - April 14
Tuesday 9:00-11:45

Course Description: Continued study of compositional techniques and study of selected twentieth-century compositions.

Qualifications/Requirements:

• Doctoral degree in Music with a specialization in Composition and/or equivalent professional experience 
• A portfolio demonstrating a record of excellence as a composer.
• Significant teaching experience in both the classroom and in private lessons
• Demonstrated ability to deliver a conducting curriculum at the post-secondary level to students from a wide variety of backgrounds.
