Description

The School of Creative and Performing Arts (SCPA), Division of Music invites applications for sessional instructors to teach the following courses in the Fall 2025 and Winter 2026.

 

Lectures for the Fall 2025 term run from September 2 to December 5, 2025, and lectures for the Winter 2026 term run from January 12 to April 14, 2026. Please see the academic schedule for additional important dates and deadlines.

 

NOTE: THE FOLLOWING COURSE OFFERINGS ARE TENTATIVE, PENDING FUNDING AND SUFFICIENT ENROLMENTS. 

NOTE: THERE MAY BE CANDIDATES WITH THE RIGHT OF FIRST REFUSAL (TUCFA Collective Agreement 23.12).

 

MUSI 225 Musicianship I

 

Fall 2025 and Winter 2026 

Course Times: Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 10:00-10:50

Course Descriptions: Development of skills in rhythm, intonation and sight-singing. Performance of two-part contrapuntal exercises with diatonic modulation.

(This counts as 2 HCE, 1 in Fall 2025 and 1 in Winter 2026)

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Doctoral degree in music and/or equivalent professional experience.
  • Strong aural and rhythmic skills and knowledge of soflège systems.
  • Keyboard skills are a strong asset.
  • Significant teaching experience and demonstrated ability to deliver curriculum at the post-secondary level.  Experience supervising and mentoring graduate student assistants.

 

MUSI 427/527 Professional Seminar in Music Performance I/II

 

Fall 2025 and Winter 2026 

Course Times: Wednesdays 16:00-17:50

Course Descriptions: Practical experience in music performance in a team-teaching master class format.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Graduate degree in Music with an emphasis on performance (doctorate preferred) and/or equivalent professional experience 
  • Significant teaching experience and demonstrated ability to coach performance majors from varied instrumental backgrounds in a masterclass setting
  • Strong organizational and professional skills
  • Ability to coordinate and lead students/guest artists/faculty members in both masterclasses and professional practice skills presentations

For salary information, please refer to TUCFA's Collective Agreement, Schedule B. As per the Collective Agreement, the Faculty of Arts adheres to the right of first refusal terms (Section 23.12.1 and 23.12.2) for Sessional Appointments.
