Program Consultant, ICT - UCalgary Continuing Education

Business & Technology Programs within UCalgary Continuing Education is currently seeking a Full-time Limited Term Program Consultant, ICT for approximately 24 months.

The University of Calgary Continuing Education (UCCE) houses one of Canada's largest and most successful continuing education departments. It is a multi-disciplinary unit, offering diploma, certificate and non-degree programs using on-site and online technologies for course delivery.

Reporting to the Associate Director, Domestic Programs, the incumbent will, in response to identified needs from individuals and groups, plan, manage, and promote revenue-producing high quality non-credit and certificate courses and programs for adults, professional associations, and the corporate community.

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

Program Development and Instructor Management

• Assess existing programs and partnerships to ensure a robust portfolio of offerings that meet student and industry requirements.
• Ensures the development, implementation and management of financially viable, high quality adult learning opportunities.
• Establish an academic program plan to meet annual projected registrations and budget requirements.
• Collaborate with marketing department to promote programs to meet projected registration targets and business goals.
• Facilitate program, certificate, and course approvals through ContEd committees, and maintain, the programming area(s) under his/her direction
• Develop, update, review, and manage programs and courses to meet educational needs both locally and nationally, in both existing and new markets.
• Recruit, onboard, and support instructors while planning and managing programs, ensuring financial viability, curriculum alignment, and quality learning experiences.
• Oversee individual course and/or program design to ensure adherence to sound adult and continuing education principles and practices and curriculum relevancy.
• Ensure the provision of quality educational experiences and customer value.

Communication and Leadership

• Provides strategic leadership in the ICT area to support student and industry needs and is aligned with the direction of the University
• Lead projects with manageable risks and resource requirements
• Ensure program quality and relevance through the recruitment, development and retention of excellent instructors from industry, government and education.
• Develop and maintain effective working relationships with program managers, program coordinators, student services, instructors, prospective students, employers, professional bodies and other faculties of the university to ensure on-going identification of educational needs and new programming opportunities.
• Work effectively in collaboration with Continuing Education and University of Calgary staff responsible for the functions of finance, HR, information technology, marketing, and academic governance, as well as with other Program Directors.
• Ensure business process compliance with Continuing Education and UC standards and policies.
• Contribute to the preparation of annual, program-area plans, and provide input, as requested to other program-area and unit-wide plans.
• Ensure program compliance with Association, Unit and University academic standards and expectations.

Qualifications / Requirements:

• Master's Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Software Engineering, and/or Adult Education is preferred, or a combination of education and relevant work experience in the Information Technology field.
• Knowledge of current trends, industry requirements and educational practices in the ICT subject area.
• Ability to translate labour market requirements and emerging trends in technology into programming opportunities within the ICT portfolio. 
• Experience with Labour Market Aggregators such as Burning Glass is an asset.
• 8-10 years related experience in planning, development, marketing and delivery of new programming initiatives to adults in mixed delivery formats (e.g. face to face and online).
• Evidenced ability to maintain current knowledge of the constantly changing technology environment and to competently assess, review and direct updates to programs and curricula as new software versions are released, and as new methodologies become mainstream best practices.
• Demonstrated experience in successfully negotiating and implementing third party agreements to enhance current programming offering.
• Ability to develop, monitor and analyze program budgets, financial and enrollment data.
• Strong problem solving and analytical skills, flexibility, self-motivation, innovativeness and initiative.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to be a collaborative team member and interface with multiple organizational levels, external parties and University faculties. 
• Ability to apply leadership skills and provide coaching and mentoring to staff.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Proficient with relevant Microsoft Office applications. Familiarity with PowerBI is an asset.
• Adequate knowledge of the existing and potential programming area(s) to provide programming direction. These include:
  • AI (Generative AI, Agents, No-code or Low Code tools)
  • Software Development 
  • Cloud Computing (Azure, AWS, Google Cloud)
  • Graphic Design Software (Figma, Adobe Suites)
  • Full Stack Web and App Development
  • Relational Databases, Data Engineering, Data Science
  • Cybersecurity
  • Data Analytics and Business Intelligence      
  • Microsoft Productivity Tools and Power Platform (Copilot, Power Automate)
• Understanding of a broad set of technologies used to deliver a courses (e.g. Desire2Learn, Zoom and VMWare).
