Position Overview

The Infrastructure Maintenance Program within Facilities is currently seeking a Full-time Regular Project Coordinator/Administrator-Asbestos Management.

This position reports to the Program Manager, and will evaluate the eligibility of funding, initiate and complete the deliverables. They will aso provide cradle-to-grave management of all asbestos related activities.


Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Schedule asbestos abatement in conjunction with internal and external stakeholders including arranging access; lab safety clearances if required; information/shutdown notices; EH&S area work permit and hazard assessment, etc. in accordance with University policies and procedures and in compliance with legislation
  • Ensure all work is procured in accordance with the University's process, including competitive bidding, appropriate tendering, initiation of purchase orders and invoice process
  • Ensure that work assigned is completed on time and on budget, meeting the needs of asbestos projects in accordance with University policies and in compliance with legislation
  • Ensure all work is completed in accordance with the University's safety policies, Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulation and Code. Ensures that all contracted staff and worksites are in compliance with University policies and legislated requirements
  • Interacts and collaborates professionally with internal and external stakeholders
  • Provide regular reporting on accountabilities to the Program Manager responsible for Asbestos Management

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Post-secondary education or certification in the area of project management, environment science, architecture, engineering or science discipline
  • Experience in project management including worksite construction process, construction drawings/documents, software and use of databases
  • Training in office skills and administration and a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a busy office environment is required
  • Training and/or certification in asbestos management from a recognized institution is highly desirable
  • Knowledge of University culture, operating, financial and reporting systems and procedures would be desirable
  • Proven ability to communicate well both in writing and verbally
  • Exceptional interpersonal, negotiation and organization skills are required
  • Must demonstrate the ability to lead and direct others
  • A valid class 5 Alberta Driver's License is required
