Position Overview

Communications Media within Information Technologies is currently seeking a Full-time Regular IT - Communications/Media Audio Visual Technician.

Hours of work:

Sunday: 7:45am – 3:15pm

Monday to Thursday: 2:30pm – 10:00pm

Reports to the Manager, Communications Media. Work is varied with occasional high volumes. Work on occasion requires independent judgment in selecting an appropriate course of action within prescribed procedures and guidelines.

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Troubleshoot and fix minor equipment and cabling issues
  • Report major repair issues to Technical Unit through Service Now
  • Maintain up to date inventory of equipment
  • Keep up with changes in technology through mandatory and optional on-line training and hands-on experience
  • Operate and maintains equipment to ensure effective customer service
  • Maintain accurate records
  • Plan for the next day's activities
  • Take customer requests and enters information into booking system without error
  • Accurately keep track of locations of media equipment
  • Maintain a safe working environment and reports unsafe conditions to the appropriate authorities
  • Deliver, sets up, and return equipment to designated areas according to activity sheets in a timely and efficient manner

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Completion of technical school studies in radio, television arts of broadcast technology at a recognized institution and/or relevant work experience
  • Two years of experience with AV equipment, live audio, audio and video recording, computers and data projection systems
  • Must be able to operate a University vehicle and have a valid Class 5 Alberta Operators license with no current suspensions and fewer than six (6) demerits. A current Driver's Abstract must be provided on request
  • Troubleshooting and basic repair ability
  • Base knowledge of Window and Macintosh hardware and software
  • Ability to perform heavy manual labour work related to the equipment
