Position Overview

Financial Reporting within Finance is currently seeking 3 Full-time Limited Term Senior Financial Analysts for approximately 1 year.

Reporting to the Associate Director of Internal Controls, this position is a senior member of a financial reporting project team, that is responsible for reviewing, analyzing and making recommendations on projects that impact the financial statements. The incumbent will perform professional, complex accounting work in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and reporting requirements, requiring advanced knowledge of accounting principles related to Public Sector Accounting Standards. This position will be responsible for reviewing work completed by junior team members. The incumbent will also develop working relationships with other areas of the University to gain understanding of project files, in order to identify issues and provide recommendations for solutions.

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Support quarterly and year-end financial reporting requirements by reviewing and documenting project files, analyzing financial activity and making recommendations to ensure compliance with reporting requirements
  • Review the work of junior team members for accuracy and completeness. Provide training and guidance as required
  • Resolve issues identified by junior team members, and identify areas requiring further analysis. Complete in-depth complex analysis, often in situations with limited identification of issues
  • Be responsible for complex project files, which requires completing analysis, making recommendations for changes, and identifying situations requiring escalation to senior management
  • Implement and support change successfully
  • Conduct analysis on key concerns of senior management quickly and knowledgeably

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Professional accounting designation (CA, CMA, or CGA) with a related university degree
  • Significant work experience in various accounting and analyst functions (5+ years)
  • Practical experience reviewing financial transactions and using professional judgement to make recommendations for changes. Required to have understanding of accounting principles as they relate to the recording of financial activities
  • Self-motivated and proactive individual who excels in an environment with constant changes
  • Required to have a high attention to detail
  • Required to have an expertise in highly complex and technical financial concepts
  • Experience reviewing work of junior team members, and providing feedback as applicable
  • Intermediate to Expert user of computer software applications, including MS Word, Excel, and PeopleSoft financial systems
  • A working knowledge of CaseWare would be an asset
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven track record of developing relationships with stakeholders in changing environments
