Talent Acquisition Strategist,Talent Management, Human Resources

Position Overview

The Talent Management team within Human Resources is searching for a Regular Full-time Talent Acquisition Strategist .
The University of Calgary serves as an intellectual, social and cultural hub. We are looking for an energized Talent Acquisition Strategist to identify and attract diverse talent to our busy campus. This position reports to the Manager, Talent Acquisition.

• You will support our recruiting team with expertise in recruitment best practices and help attract a diverse and talented work force

• You will contribute, from brain storming to execution, new and innovative ideas for recruitment strategies
• You will be an ambassador for Talent Management and the greater HR department, both on and off campus
• You will be an expert in diversity recruiting, participating in initiatives like ii’ taa’poh’to’p


Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
  • Partner with HR Services and the Talent Acquisition team to create and deliver a talent strategy and process tailored to each client's specific needs. Understand their business, culture, values, and mission to create an engaging candidate experience
  • Provide input on the development of new programs and initiatives around recruitment and retention
  • Build talent pipelines both virtual and in person locally, nationally and internationally
  • Seek out and participate in opportunities to promote the University as an employer of choice (facilitate to internal and external groups, identify career fair opportunities, participate on panels, facilitate at conferences, attend networking opportunities around Calgary)
  • Provide clients with support and advice in regards to the sourcing, candidate stewardship and the recruitment and selection process
  • Assist in sourcing and vetting talent, for intermediate and senior level roles
  • Act as an in-house expert regarding the latest trends and best practice in talent acquisition
  • Participate in both the Accommodation and Redeployment Communities of Support. Participate in finding creative solutions to individual employee circumstances. Work collaboratively with other community members and identify opportunities for development
  • Work in collaboration with the Team Lead and Manager, Talent Acquisiton to develop and deliver any needed training to Recruiters, HR colleagues, and Hiring Managers
  • Foster a climate of high achievement and positive morale
  • Develop and maintain positive and effective problem solving relationships with colleagues internal and external to Human Resources
  • In collaboration with Team Lead, ensure Talent Acquisition team is providing effective and timely support to hiring managers by training and advising on recruitment and selection best practices, providing assistance with sourcing and selection
  • Identify and explore issues or trends in diversity recruitment on campus
  • Develop strong partnerships with organizations focused on underrepresented talent
  • Participate in various diversity related committees, activities and networking opportunities both on and off campus
  • Establish best practices for diversity recruiting (including alternative approaches for interviews and communication)
Qualifications / Requirements:
  • Undergraduate degree in Human Resources, or related discipline is preferred (a combination of education and experience would be considered)
  • A minimum of 5 years in a client facing Talent Acquisition role
  • The position also requires familiarity of and proven cultural competency in working with the Indigenous community, people, and cultures
  • Proven excellence in pipeline development, interview facilitation, recruitment best practices
  • Demonstrated leadership and training skills. This role will facilitate learning both internally and externally
  • Proven experience as an influencer, ability to have difficult conversations and solution focused
  • Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholder groups in large, complex organizational environments
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative team environment, including exceptional interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Experience with Applicant Tracking Systems, specifically PeopleSoft Talent Acquisition Manager considered an asset
  • Ability to work independently with minimal guidance
  • Good judgment and initiative, tact and diplomacy in dealing with the frequent interactions with, staff, instructors, university departments and external organizations
  • Proficiency with LinkedIn Recruiter, Microsoft Excel, Word, Power Point
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • CPHR designation is an asset
