Assistant Professor, Canadian Foreign and Defense Policy, Department of Political Science and School of Public Policy

Position Description

The Department of Political Science invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor , in the area of Canadian Foreign and Defense Policy . This is a full-time appointment and includes an 80% secondment to the School of Public Policy in the International Policy and Trade area. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2019.

A completed Ph.D. in Political Science is expected at the time of appointment. We are seeking a scholar with an established and active research program in Canadian Foreign and Defence Policy. This individual will have a high level of expertise in quantitative analysis and methodology related to this policy area. This scholar will have publications in quality peer-reviewed journals, along with policy publications and outreach activities focused on dissemination to broader audiences of decision-makers and practitioners. Evidence of an ability to secure external funding is required. The successful applicant is expected to play an important role in teaching courses and supervision of students in the graduate Master of Public policy program in the School of Public Policy, and in the Department of Political Science in the Faculty of Arts. Service is also expected, for which relevant experience of university administration is desirable. Evidence of excellence in teaching may be demonstrated via a strong statement of teaching philosophy and outstanding teaching evaluations.

The Department of Political Science and the School of Public Policy are research-intensive units with high standards in teaching, research and service.
