Technology Solutions Analyst, University of Calgary Continuing Education

Position Overview

University of Calgary Continuing Education is currently seeking a Full-time Limited TermTechnology Solutions Analyst for approximately 2 years.

The University of Calgary has one of Canada's largest and most successful continuing education programs.  It is a multi-disciplinary unit offering diploma, certificate and non-degree programs using on-site and online technologies for course delivery.  In support of the University of Calgary's core principles and financial objectives, Continuing Education is an academic unit with a mandate to respond to the needs of the community through the design, development and delivery of lifelong learning opportunities.

Continuing Education consists of a number of distinct programming teams with a central service team, serving almost 20,000 students annually. It is expected to fund through revenue generation, the majority of its operational costs while contributing financially to the University. Meeting business targets in a competitive environment is dependent upon providing quality programs and ensuring highly effective client service.

Reporting to the Manager, Business Operations, this position works in a high volume, complex domain that requires excellent customer service skills. The incumbent must have the ability to mentor staff and instructors in the use of Continuing Education's student registration system (Destiny One) and the Desire 2 Learn (D2L) course management system.

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Apply end user knowledge regarding systems including Desire to Learn (D2L) and Destiny One to staff, students and faculty
  • Provide support in Destiny One and D2L systems to administrative staff
  • Provide support to instructors using D2L
  • Track and analyze issues and solutions in conjunction with the University of Calgary IT Support Centre
  • Provide support to student regarding issues arising from the UCIT Support Centre

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Post-secondary education in Computer Science, Commerce or Business Administration with focus on IT 
  • Two years of related experience including customer service (i.e. face to face and phone support)
  • Ability to learn new software programs quickly
  • Application development knowledge in: database and software programming, software testing, including basic skills in Microsoft SQL, and C#.NET
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to translate technical terminology and to be patient when responding to repetitious end user requests
  • Ability to work under pressure and with multiple deadlines
  • Strong writing skills with ability to write functional documentation
  • Technical / systems skills including Microsoft Office and Web technologies
  • Experience with e-learning course management systems is a strong asset
  • Experience with a transaction processing (registration) system is preferred
  • Experience with a Help Desk ticketing system is desirable
  • Understanding of and/or experience within an academic environment is an asset
