Position Overview

The Department of Medicine in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Research Assistant. This Fixed Term Recurring Part-time position is for approximately 1 year (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

This position reports to the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging (CLSA) Calgary Site Research Coordinator, with accountabilities from the Principal Investigator.

The Research Assistant must have the ability to prioritize and determine work flow, be self-motivated and can work efficiently within a team and on their own without supervision. Previous research experience would be considered an asset.

Travel within Calgary is required, as this position will conduct off-site in-home interviews with participants. 

This is a recurring part-time position.  Recurring part-time employees are hourly employees engaged to perform work on an irregular schedule.  

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Ability to complete assigned tasks in a timely manner
  • Conducting interviews and data collection
  • Maintaining ethical and confidentiality standards
  • Assisting in the implementation of the project
  • Contacting and managing study participants, conducting in-home interviews, and ensuring good quality data collection
  • Establishing and maintaining good relationships with all research team members and study participants
  • Ensuring proper research methodology and handling of all research materials is observed

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Bachelor degree or equivalent
  • Ability and experience working with the public
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Previous research experience would be a strong asset
  • Excellent time management, interpersonal and communication skills, accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to work as a team member
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office Word, Excel)
  • Possess a positive attitude within a work environment
  • Access to vehicle is required for in-home visits
