The Department of Pathology in the Cumming School of Medicine at the University of Calgary are accepting applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow in Prostate Cancer Biology.
Job Description:
Our laboratory focuses on identifying and characterizing novel biomarkers to differentiate aggressive and indolent phenotypes of prostate cancer. Our work combines an in vitro/in vivo approach with tissue-based biomarkers using immunohistochemistry, fluorescent in-situ hybridization (FISH), Q-PCR, sequencing, gene expression and aCGH, along with siRNA technology and bioinformatics analysis.
Currently, the main research focus is to investigate and characterize novel genes associated with the ERG gene rearrangements and PTEN deletions in prostate cancer. For the most recent news write-up, please see: https://cumming.ucalgary.ca/departments/bmb/profiles/dr-tarek-bismar
This is a very active and busy laboratory with several collaborative projects. It is expected that the fellow will be very active, industrious and will engage in several collaborative and independent research activities, as well as taking responsibility for the finalization of several manuscripts related to prostate cancer. The successful candidate is expected to be able to work independently and have excellent urological and general pathology experience and be successful in obtaining outside funding. This is a postdoctoral research program with emphasis on prostate cancer research. Observation of clinical pathological case sign-outs will be available for clinical fellows.
Qualifications:
We are seeking a highly motivated candidate with recent PhD (within the last two years) with a strong research background in molecular biology and a proven track record of publications. Applicants with additional experience in bioinformatics and data mining investigating transcriptomic and copy number as well as sequence data are encouraged to apply. Experience in fluorescent in-situ hybridization or molecular biology is highly desirable.
The successful candidate should be knowledgeable in basic laboratory work (PCR, western, RNA and DNA extraction and sequence) with excellent experience in in-vitro work (cell invasion, proliferation, CRISPR, CHIP, CO-IP, miRNA and luciferace etc). They should possess excellent communication skills and be fluent in the English language. Preference will be given to Canadian permanent residents and Canadian citizens. However, international candidates are also encouraged to apply.
