Research Assistant, Digital & Web Technology, Physician Learning Program, Cumming School of Medicine

Position Overview

The Physician Learning Program in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Research Assistant, Digital & Web Technology. This Fixed Term Recurring Part-Time position is for approximately 2 months (based on length of grant funding), with the intension of extension to February 2021.

Reporting to the Manager, Physician Learning Program, the Research Assistant, Digital & Web Technology will work collaboratively with the PLP Calgary Project Managers and Medical Directors to integrate web and social media strategies to extend the reach of PLP resources among 11,000 Alberta Physicians. The primary purpose of this position is to provide technical, programming and web development support using advanced methodologies.

This role is partially funded by Canada Summer Jobs, eligible candidates must be:

  • between 15 and 30 years of age
  • either a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred
  • legally entitled to work in Canada

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Assist with the development and execution of a marketing and communications technology strategy
  • Assist in the development of innovative tools to increase communication and collaboration among members, and other internal and external stakeholders
  • Assist with the development of articles, event materials, brochures, fact sheets, reports, videos, etc.
  • Build and grow PLP's social media presence
  • Contribute to the success of the Program's communications, internal and external relations, knowledge translation efforts, and special events
  • Keep the current PLP website up to date with recent news releases, stories, project summaries, all in line with the marketing plan you develop
  • Conduct an internal redesign of the website to more accurately communicate the output and services that PLP provides
  • Collaborate with the Edmonton office to ensure that the voices of both offices are present in the website
  • Develop an understanding of the people you are trying to reach to inform your work
  • Support experience mapping and human-centered design initiatives

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Post-secondary diploma/degree (or significant training towards receiving a diploma/degree) in a relevant area such as computer science, web design, or communications technologies
  • Minimum 1-2 years of related work experience, but a combination of education and experience will be considered
  • Knowledge and experience with website CMS (Umbraco, Drupal, Wordpress, etc)
  • HTML, javascript and CSS are required
  • Broad knowledge and experience in the area of new media and social networking platforms and applications
  • Knowledge of web technology including blogs, podcasts, interactive portals and other content-sharing sites
  • High familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
