Position Overview
The Department of Paediatrics in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for two (2) Research Nurse(s). These Fixed Term Recurring Part-time positions are for approximately 1 year (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
This position reports to the Program Manager.
Working within the framework of the University, the Cumming School of Medicine and the Alberta Children's Hospital's policies and procedures, the Research Nurse position is often called upon to make decisions using independent judgment. Will be called upon to give medications or answer questions concerning medications.
The main objective is to enroll patients in studies that are going on in the Alberta Children's Hospital Emergency Department. There can be at least 10 different studies going on at one time, which all require a significant amount of interpersonal skills when dealing with patients and their families, students, doctors, nurses and staff. There are periods of high volume with strict deadlines, as in preparation of research study data from our location and other emergency departments across the country. Attention to detail is crucial, as the impact of error is high for the incumbent, who is solely responsible to ensure day-to-day work is completed accurately, and information provided to others is correct.
These are recurring part-time positions working approximately 18 hours per week. Hours fall within a template with opportunity for adjustments. The schedule is varied and will require some evenings and weekends. Recurring part-time employees are hourly employees engaged to perform work on an irregular schedule.
