Position Overview

The Schulich School of Engineering is currently seeking a Full-time Regular Program Evaluation & Planning Analyst.

This position reports to the Manager, Planning and Resource Allocation, and takes the lead in the area of program evaluation incorporating knowledge and understanding of regulatory and accrediting criteria, approval processes, and potential research opportunities associated with evaluating the programs. The scope of work requires navigation of competing interests and deadlines. Work will require day to day involvement with faculty members, and the development of regulatory reports driven by critical deadlines. The Specialist will support continuous curriculum improvement and accreditation processes.  There will be opportunities for leadership in the areas of faculty training and support, graduate student training, Capstone Design Fair, and the oversight of local teaching & learning conferences.

 

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Orchestrates, in a project management capacity, various aspects associated with the accreditation process including responsibility for examination results collection, demonstrating spread and distribution of results, ensuring results match the accreditation requirements
  • Establishes the value and relevant types of data, drives the optimization of this data for the purpose of improving decision-making, learning, outcomes and proposals, and advises Associate Deans by making recommendations on the data analysis
  • Plays a large role in accreditation data collection efforts, providing both the data and guidance for managing the School's accreditation activities for assessing institutional effectiveness and continuous improvement
  • Provides data analysis and data synthesis support for program evaluation and accreditation purposes
  • Provides specialist perspective on teaching and learning initiatives, including organization of workshops for faculty members and teaching assistants, and contributing to the development of recommended resources for innovative teaching approaches
  • Develops, facilitates and leads in-house seminars for faculty teaching development, including overseeing logistics and contributing to the subject matter of these seminars
  • Plans relevant retreats, workshops and conferences
  • Collaborates and liaises with Campus Teaching and Learning Centre in the development of programs such as Learning Technology Coaches Program
  • Oversees the annual TA workshops for SSE and continues to develop best-practice Teaching Assistant support throughout the academic year
  • Directs and supports the Capstone Design Fair by overseeing the complex logistics and supporting the Capstone instructors
  • Determines the value and the types of data analysis that could enhance and optimize decision-making for SSE. Understands, analyzes and uses the data for the benefit of the Faculty, disseminating the results in an easily understood format

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree in Engineering
  • Five years experience that includes proficiency in evaluation methodology involving the management of reliable and valid data
  • A combination of education and and experience may be considered
  • Previous experience with program evaluation, program management, and curriculum evaluation
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Scholarship of Teaching & Learning and up to date on current pedagogical best practices
  • Technical mastery of Access and Excel (including Macros), as well as business intelligence tools to retrieve, edit, filter, apply criteria analyze and format data
  • An understanding of value of data analytics - Experience with data collection processes, data management, data collection systems, statistical analysis software and data analysis
  • Self-motivated, creative and detail oriented
  • Solving complex problems using strong analytic abilities and sound judgment
  • Ability to document programs and procedures
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and client relation skills when interacting with internal and external stakeholders
  • Effective time management to ensure projects and general inquiries are completed on a timely basis
  • Project planning or project management experience is an asset
  • A broad understanding and knowledge of the university environment at both the organizational and operational levels is an asset
