Position Description

The Department of Classics and Religion invites applications for Sessional Instructors to teach the following courses in Fall 2020 & Winter 2021. Please note that for the Fall term, the method of instruction will be online. Applicants should have experience delivering courses in a remote setting, which includes evidence of successful use of online teaching materials and methods of assessment.

FALL 2020 (August 31 - December 24, 2020)

  • GRST 209: Classical Mythology and Literature, TR 14:00-15:15 (WEB BASED)
  • GRST 347: Late Roman Antiquity, TR  12:30-13:45 (WEB BASED)
  • RELS 333: Religious Perspectives on Death and Afterlife, TR  15:30-16:45 (WEB BASED)
  • RELS 369: Introduction to Judaism, MWF 10:00-11:00 (WEB BASED)
  • RELS 399.1: Religion in Popular Culture, Watching Film Religiously, TR 14:00-15:15 (WEB BASED)
  • RELS 373.12: Topics in Religious Studies, Intro to Sikhism, TR 12:30-13:45 (WEB BASED)

Winter 2021 (January 4 - April 30, 2021)

  • GREK 401: Topics in Greek Prose, MWF  12:00-12:50 
  • RELS 205: Religion and the Good Life, TR 11:00-12:15
  • RELS 301: Studies in the Hebrew Bible/Old Testament, MWF 9-9.50
  • RELS 357: Islam, MTWRF  09:00-17:00 (BLOCK WEEK)
  • RELS 417.8: Recent Religious Thought, Sikh Diaspora, TR 12:30-13:45

  • Proof of completion of PhD or PhD candidacy**
  • Teaching evaluations from a course you have taught or for which you have been a TA
  • Cover letter indicating which courses you are interested in teaching
  • Current CV
  • Three academic reference letters (if not already on file)
  • Statement of teaching philosophy and methods
  • Course names and descriptions of courses you have taught
  • A course proposal and reading list for each course you are applying for

**Doctoral students who have passed their candidacy exams 30 days before the course begins are eligible to apply. Please indicate in your letter of application the anticipated dates for completion of the candidacy exams.

For salary information, please refer to TUCFA's Collective Agreement, Schedule B. As per the Collective Agreement, the Department of Classics and Religion adheres to the right of first refusal terms (Section 23.12.1 and 23.12.2) for Sessional Appointments.
