Position Description
The School of Languages, Linguistics, Literatures and Cultures invites applications to teach the following course sections in the upcoming fall session.*
GERM 202 LEC 02 MWF 11:00-11:50 German I
LEC 03 MWF 12:00-12:50
LEC 04 MWF 13:00-13:50
Application Details: The University of Calgary will use online modes of course delivery in the fall term. The instructor of this course should be comfortable with online modes of course delivery and students' remote learning. The instructor will be responsible for thoughtful course design and meaningful opportunities for student engagement. Candidates should have native or near-native knowledge of German and English and experience teaching languages. When possible, proficiency in a candidate¿s non-native language should be documented (e.g., through a CEFR certificate). Qualified applicants should submit a complete application if the School of LLLC does not already have it on file: a cover letter addressed to Dr. Mushegh Asatrayan, Chair of the Division of German, Russian, and Arabic Languages and Muslim Cultures (including the course section you are applying for and relevant teaching experience), a current curriculum vitae, a statement of teaching philosophy, and teaching evaluations, if available. Materials should be submitted electronically in .pdf format to the email address below. Applicants should also arrange to have 3 letters of recommendation sent directly to the email address below. At least 1 of the 3 letters must directly address the applicant's teaching ability.
SLLLC Doctoral students are eligible to apply for sessional instructor positions only if they have been given permission by their supervisor. (If the supervisor is providing a letter of reference please ask that they indicate consent as part of their letter. Otherwise, ask them to provide a separate written statement). Student applicants are strongly encouraged to take the Instructional Skills Workshop at the Teaching and Learning Centre.

The Hiring Committee may need to access the teaching evaluation results (including USRIs) for those who have taught at the University of Calgary before, as part of the selection process. By submitting your application, you have given consent for the Hiring Committee to review your USRI(s).

*All courses are subject to budgetary approval. An offer of a Term Certain Sessional Instructor appointment may be cancelled in whole or in part by the Governors prior to the commencement of the appointment term (23.10 in the Collective Agreement)
