Position Overview

The University of Calgary Medical Group in the Cumming School of Medicine is currently seeking a Full-time Regular MT Quality Analyst.

 UCMG Transcription Services provides a superior multi-disciplinary transcription service to Faculty members, residents, fellows and clinical clerks in the Cumming School of Medicine.

The position of Medical Transcription (MT) Quality Analyst reports to the Manager, UCMG Transcription Services.  

The primary purpose of this role is to provide remote advisory support to medical transcriptionists who work for UCMG Transcription Services from various locations in the province of Alberta. Fully responsible for the delivery of own day-to-day services, the role requires a high level of transcription knowledge, technical competence and strong analytical thinking.  A significant function of this role is the regular evaluation and assessment of transcription quality as measured against predetermined UCMG guidelines.  MT Analysts must use professional judgement in reviewing their work, and the work of others, to ensure that the integrity of the service provided by UCMG Transcription Services is maintained.

 

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Operational Leadership/Quality Assurance
    • Applies knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and English language rules to the review of diagnostic and treatment reports as part of the ongoing quality assurance in the department
    • Advises medical transcription staff encountering challenges in the completion of documents because of style guide issues, drug names and resolution of inconsistencies in information presented by speakers
    • Acts as coach and mentor in the training and development of the UCMG Transcription team
    • As required, updates FAQ and Style Guide documentation used by all transcriptionists
    • Leads and implements change on the Team to support continuous improvement and appropriately escalate emerging issues to the Manager
    • Through liaison with community providers ensure the integrity of UCMG database information to ensure distribution information is accurate
    • Liaises with 3rd party stakeholders such as community vendors to verify data
  • Client Relations (External and Internal Stakeholders)
    • Participates in the annual orientation intake of medical trainees (all levels)
    • Compiles Physician Profiles for medical trainee access to UCMG Transcription platforms
    • Provides support to UCMG members and trainees experiencing technical issues with the eScription platform
    • Develops and maintains collaborative working relationships with stakeholders (AHS, Nuance, HiiTec, staff)

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Completion of a recognized minimum 1-year Medical Transcription Program/certification
  • 5-7  years of experience using medical transcription platforms
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Proven abilities in complex problem solving and critical thinking skills with a strong attention to detail
  • Proficiency with systems such as Netcare and Escription
  • Strong organizational, communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills
  •  A combination of experience, training, and education will be considered
