Position Overview

Information Technologies is currently seeking a Full-time Regular Specialist, Identity and Messaging.

Reporting to the Lead, Identity and Messaging Services(IMS), this position provides a senior technical role in leading the planning, design, deployment and maintenance of cloud based services that spans across Identity and Access Management (IAM), Email and Messaging areas.

These technologies and services are critical to the ongoing operation of the University IT infrastructure and are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  The nature of the job requires the incumbent to work quickly and efficiently in high stress situations where errors can result in a high community impact.  The job also requires some work to be performed outside normal business hours.

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

Operational support

  • Perform tenant administration in Office 365 that includes access provisioning, license lifecycle management and change control management
  • Provide support to federated identity systems that includes AD FS, Azure AD connect, and Shibboleth IdP
  • Provide support to directory services that includes Active Director (AD), Azure AD and OpenLDAP
  • Provide support to IAM systems that includes account life cycle management and compliance management
  • Provide systems support to hybrid messaging system
  • Provide systems support to cloud-base storage, collaboration and middleware services
  • Make recommendations regarding the establishment of policies and procedures for the proper use of messaging technologies
  • Monitor user’s reports of SPAM messages including phishing attacks, perform impact analysis and prepare report for leadership team
  • Inspect SPAM message header information for confirmation of compromised account
  • Correlate and analyze data on phishing attacks, SPAM campaign and security breaches related to Email security
  • Provide support to user education campaign on Email security
  • Perform strategic and tactical planning and develop roadmaps for cloud-based technologies ensuring that they are technically aligned with the organization’s strategic direction, values and professional standards
  • Act as senior technical resources for client issues related to identity, cloud infrastructure and Email systems. Ensure status updates of incidents and problems are communicated to the business
  • Act as a senior technical resource for larger project work involving identity, cloud infrastructure and Email systems
  • Keep abreast of best practices in the IAM, Email and Collaboration areas
  • Ensure that Service Definitions are properly written and maintained
  • Ensure that quick and efficient response can be provided for service failures at any time of day, night or weekend
  • Collect statistics and report on key performance indicators
  • Act as a resource on cloud infrastructure operations to other members in the IMS team

¿System planning and roadmap

  • Plan roadmap and continuous service improvement for operation of identity, cloud infrastructure and email systems
  • Help with planning highly available architecture for hybrid environment
  • Help with developing roadmaps for hybrid environment
  • Ensure disaster recovery procedures are available and tested regularly
  • Maintain confidentiality of user profiles, account information, and other potentially sensitive data
  • Eliminate any single points of dependency on hardware, software or people
  • Ensure software is as secure and reliable as it can be

Project management

  • Act as a technical resource for projects in the IAM, Email and Messaging areas
  • Ensure leadership team are kept informed of activities, issues and progress with projects

Technical consultation and communication to IT units and IT partners

  • Coordinate projects and provide technical support to IT units and IT partners
  • Maintain current and timely communication across other IT units and IT partners on matters of mutual interest and importance

Research new and emerging technologies

  • Stay current with the best practices in other post-secondary education organizations and the industry
  • Devise, maintain and enforce appropriate technical standards

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Completion of an undergraduate degree in Computer Science or a similar field
  • Professional training and/or certification in Office 365, Azure AD, Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft Identity Manager, Active Directory, SharePoint, and/or Skype for Business is an asset
  • Foundation certification of ITIL v3 is an asset
  • 4-5 years of corporate experience with:
    • Office 365 tenant administration
    • Exchange Online
    • Skype for Business
    • Microsoft Teams
    • SharePoint Online
    • OneDrive for Business
    • Office 365 ProPlus
    • Azure AD Premium
    • RSA Authentication Manager (SecurID)
    • Microsoft Graph API
  • 6-10 years of experience with
    • Windows PowerShell, Java, and C# .NET
    • Exchange 2016Windows Server (2012, 2016, and 2020)
    • Performance and health monitoring using SCOM
    • Identity management tools including Active Directory, Microsoft Identity Manager and OpenLDAP
    • Experience with third-party products including Service Now, Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM), Data Protection Manager (DPM) and GIT
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills, self-motivated, ability to work with minimal supervision and as part of a team
  • A strong sense of responsibility and initiative
  • Knowledge of the structure and organization of the University is considered an asset
