Position Description
The Department of Geography in the Faculty of Arts invites applications for Sessional Instructors to teach the following courses during the Fall 2020 and Winter 2021 session.* Please note that for the Fall session, the method of instruction will be online.
Fall Term (September 1 - December 31, 2020):
- GEOG 280 - Thinking Spatially in a Digital World
- UBST 461 - The Transit City
Winter Term (January 1 - April 30, 2021):
- GEOG 280 - Thinking Spatially in a Digital World
- GEOG 456 - Uneven Development
- GEOG 553 - Globalization and the City
- GEOG 565 - Spaces of Urban Politics
- GEOG 311 - The Gender City
- UBST 451 - Planning in the Canadian City

Qualifications: Candidates with a completed PhD or nearly completed PhD in a relevant subject area, or equivalent education and teaching experience, and demonstrated research expertise in the relevant field.
Application Process:
All applicants must submit a current curriculum vitae, evidence of teaching effectiveness, a statement of teaching philosophy and methods (addressing the specific goals and objectives of the course you have taught including two examples of successful strategies you have used) and tentative course outline. Applicants should also arrange for three letters of reference to be sent to the address below.

The amount of remuneration is calculated according to the Collective Agreement, Schedule B. Please see the Faculty Association's website at http://www.ucalgary.ca/TUCFA for further information regarding conditions of employment and remuneration.
As per the Collective Agreement, the Department of Geography will adhere to the right of first refusal terms (Section 23.12.1 and 23.12.2) for Sessional Appointments.

*All courses are subject to budgetary approval. An offer of a Term Certain Sessional Instructor appointment may be cancelled in whole or in part by the Governors prior to the commencement of the appointment term (23.10 in the Collective Agreement).
