Position Description

The Division of French and Francophone Studies in the School of Languages, Linguistics, Literatures and Cultures invites applications for Sessional Instructors to teach the following courses in the upcoming fall session.*

                     LEC 02        MWF 12:00-12:50    Beginners' French I
                     LEC 05        MWF 10:00-10:50    Beginners' French I
FREN 213    LEC 01        MWF 10:00-10:50    Intermediate French
                     LEC 02        MWF 11:00-11:50    Intermediate French
                     LEC 03        MWF 13:00-13:50    Intermediate French
FREN 225    LEC 01        MWF 09:00-09:50    La Grammaire par les textes I
FREN 227    LEC 01        TR 11:00-12:15    La Grammaire par les textes II


Qualifications: Candidates with a completed doctoral degree in French will be given preference. The successful candidate must have strong previous teaching performance or show the potential for excellent teaching ability.

The University of Calgary will use online modes of course delivery in the fall term. The instructor of this course should be comfortable with online modes of course delivery and students' remote learning. The instructor will be responsible for thoughtful course design and meaningful opportunities for student engagement. To apply, submit a letter of application directed to Dr. Amedegnato, Chair of the Division of French and Francophone Studies indicating the course and the session you are interested in teaching. This letter should speak to your qualifications to teach the course. Your application package should also include:  

  • A current, up-to-date CV (if not already on file)
  • Tentative outline for the course for which you are applying, identifying how it will be structured for online delivery.
  • Statement of teaching philosophy and methods. Provide a brief statement that addresses the specific goals and objectives of the course(s) you have taught. Give at least one example of successful strategies you have used.
  • Teaching evaluations from a course that you have taught before.
  • Student evaluations (if available). Please comment on what, in your opinion, worked well in your class, what presented difficulties and what are the possible solutions.
  • Three confidential letters of reference (if not already on file)

The Hiring Committee may need to access the teaching evaluation results (including USRIs) for those who have taught at the University of Calgary before, as part of the selection process. By submitting your application, you have given consent for the Hiring Committee to review your USRI(s).
