Position Description

The Division of Chinese Studies and Japanese Studies in the School of Languages, Linguistics, Literatures and Cultures invites applications for Sessional Instructors to teach the following courses in the upcoming fall semester.*

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have experience in teaching Japanese language and/or Japanese Studies courses at the college level. The position requires native or near-native fluency in Japanese and English.

The University of Calgary will use online modes of course delivery in the fall term. The instructor of this course should be comfortable with online modes of course delivery and students' remote learning. The instructor will be responsible for thoughtful course design and meaningful opportunities for student engagement. Application Details

Qualified applicants interested in teaching any of these courses should submit a complete application if the School of LLLC does not already have it on file:

  • a cover letter addressed to Dr. Wei Cai, Chair of the Division of Chinese Studies and Japanese Studies (including a short description of topics you would cover in the course, and relevant teaching experience)
  • a current curriculum vitae
  • a tentative outline of the course (outlines are available on the department's website and can be used as models for your own; identify how the course will be structured for online delivery)
  • course syllabi (courses previously taught)
  • teaching evaluations, if available

Applicants should also arrange to have 3 letters of recommendation sent directly to the email address below (if not already on file). At least 1 of the 3 letters must directly address the applicant's teaching ability.
