The Department of Cell Biology & Anatomy in the Cumming School of Medicine at the University of Calgary is accepting applications for two (2) Postdoctoral Scholars in Neuroscience.

Job Description:

The Postdoctoral scholar will be part of Dr. Jiami Guo's research group.    The research team focuses on the function of Primary cilia, under-appreciated cellular antenna, in brain development and function and how disrupted cilia contribute to neurodevelopmental disorders such as intellectual disabilities and autism spectrum disorders.

We are looking for a highly motivated energetic individual to conduct independent research on dissecting the role of primary cilia in astrocyte development and function. Successful applicants will have good communication skills, interest and experience in neuroscience/cell biology /developmental biology /genetics

The postdoc will use transgenic mouse models, single-cell/next generation sequencing, viral-based gene delivery, CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing, biochemistry, confocal microscopy, live-cell imaging, and behavioral assays to study the primary cilia driven mechanisms in astrocyte development and function. Previous research experience with neurodevelopment, human/mouse genetics, iPSC, single-cell RNAseq, next-generation RNAseq will be considered a plus.

Qualifications:

  • PhD (completed within the last three years) and/or MD in the field of Neuroscience or Biomedical Science
  • Demonstrated excellence in the form of peer-reviewed publications
  • Previous experience with neurodevelopment, human/mouse genetics, and cell biology
  • Excellent communication, time management, creative thinking, leadership and interpersonal skills
