Digital Engagement Analyst, Development Data, Office of Advancement

Position Overview

The Department of Development Data within the Office of Advancement invites applications for a Digital Engagement Analyst. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 2 years (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

The Office of Advancement exists for the mutual benefit of the University of Calgary and its stakeholders to engage our alumni, donors and greater community as well as coordinating fundraising activities and donations of gifts to the University. The incumbent is a key member of the Advancement Data team that supports technical and data analysis needs of Advancement and its stakeholders in the area of Digital Platforms, e-marketing and Events.

Reporting to the Manager, Data Solutions, the incumbent will work in a high volume, faced paced, and complex role that requires excellent business process, reporting, and customer service skills. This role requires highly developed analytical abilities to solve complex problems with high impact of error. The work is unstructured and based on priorities, requiring the individual to operate flexibly in a moderate to high pressure work environment.
 
The incumbent is a recognized expert in data analysis best practices with broad expertise in Digital and data platforms such as Blackbaud Products (BBCRM, BBIS), Sharepoint, Drupal and Marketo.  They require the technical aptitude and experience to support all operational functions and business processes related to Digital platforms used at the University, and an interest in adhering to, or contributing to standards and conventions related to Digital technologies in line with Industry Best Practice. This role requires a high amount of concentration, and the ability to work independently, as well as part of the larger Advancement Data team. When challenges are identified, the incumbent must use sound judgement and initiate resolutions.

This individual plays an advisory role for Advancement staff and potentially institutional stakeholders and develops documentation of processes and business rules. The incumbent must possess excellent relationship building, time management and priority setting abilities, as well as advanced judgement, creativity, and problem-solving skills. A high degree of accuracy and attention to detail is also required.

The Data team works closely as an integrated and mutually supportive team that highly values innovative thinking and creative solutioning to complex problems.  At times, urgent demands for services can result in multiple projects and tasks and can subject the incumbent to high-stress situations, where strong emotional intelligence, diplomacy skills and an orientation to the delivery of high-quality outputs will prove an asset. Project and task deadlines may require occasional overtime and extended hours

The purpose and function of this position is to support Advancement's Digital First strategy for highly targeted communications to our most engaged Constituents.

This role will:

  • Support the development and execution of online programmatic tools and platforms that enable Fundraising and Donor Stewardship activities
  • Provide best-practice digital and online program support and production in support of Advancement Services

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

Digital Platforms:

  • Deep expertise in Web technology, enabling the creation, maintenance and lifecycle management of online forms in support of Advancement's Activities
  • Initiation and configuration of e-marketing assets such as online events or email campaigns with input from the Advancement Marketing teams as necessary (eg. BBIS, Marketo)
  • Knowledge of online video Conferencing platforms such as Zoom and others, and their integration with our core platforms
  • Participation as an SME and contributor in major online events, including Fundraising, which may include crowdfunding

System Administration and Governance:

  • Maintains and updates Donor Portal site for the team and contributing with others as in areas of technical support around the selected platform (currently Sharepoint) for Advancement. Liaises with central IT with issues and concerns with the platform
  • Assists with system set up and configuration for new users. Adds users to the database and sets up appropriate security and functionality levels
  • Contributes to the development of business rules, processes and standards
  • Performs administrative system functions and other duties as assigned

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • University degree or college diploma, plus four or more years of progressive experience in a related field
  • Experience with Blackbaud Products (Raisers Edge, NetCommunity, BBCRM, BBIS preferred), Drupal, and e-marketing and salesforce automation platforms.
  • Knowledge of web development standards and working knowledge of HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
  • A track record of supporting the delivery of online content for large organizations
  • Experience in digital platform implementation and troubleshooting
  • Experience in Reporting and Analytics, such as SSRS, Tableau, PowerBI and MS Office Suite, with strong competency in SQL and Query languages
  • Demonstrated creativity, resourcefulness and excellent ability to plan and communicate
  • Proven project management skills with a strong attention to detail and demonstrated time management
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills and the ability to represent UCalgary and the Office of Advancement in a professional manner
  • Strong aptitude to understand and use new technologies, processes and tools as required.
  • Knowledge of Digital Marketing best practices is an asset. In depth knowledge of related software, 3rd party tools and optimized processes relating to them
  • Flexible and have some ability to work outside of normal business hours
