IMPACTT Coordinator, Physiology & Pharmacology, Cumming School of Medicine

Position Overview

The Department of Physiology & Pharmacology in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for an IMPACTT Coordinator. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 1 year (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

This positions reports to the Integrated Microbiome Platforms for Advancing Causation Testing and Translation (IMPACTT) Director, but works with the the Integrated Microbiome Platforms for Advancing Causation Testing and Translation (IMPACTT) Director and Director Programs & Business, International Microbiome Centre (IMC)/Infections, Inflammation and Chronic Disease Strategy (IICD).

The IMPACTT Coordinator will provide specialized research services that will be highly driven by the development and maintenance of the IMPACTT program. The individual will be required to stay up-to-date with research and network processes. The IMPACTT Coordinator will design, implement, monitor, and consult with leaders on the development and implementation of the IMPACTT program. They will be required to maintain, update, and manage all relevant data and information and to effectively communicate these to the Directors. The IMPACTT coordinator will conduct evaluations and assessments, provide consulting services to internal and external stakeholders, produce technical documents, and lead plans from conception to completion.

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Program coordination:
    • Responsible for the overall organization, reporting and updating all operations of the IMPACTT program to the directors for the strategic planning, development and implementation of the program
    • Develop and implement of IMPACTT schedules, reports, budgets and roadmaps for the directors
    • Determine priorities and implementation methods for IMPACTT schedules
    • Independently compile information into reports
    • Make recommendations to the directors on networking systems that engage internal and external microbiome researchers and stakeholders
    • Serve as a liaison for communication and networking between internal and external stakeholders and microbiome researchers
    • Ensures compliance with, and provides information regarding microbiome policies and procedures for the microbiome research community
    • Coordinate meetings, reporting and compliance with IMPACTT platform leads including education and ethics leads, compiling and reporting all information to the directors
  • Communication and networking
    • Ensure the information on the IMPACTT website is current and up to date
    • Update website content as required
    • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders and microbiome researchers through but not limited to meetings, email, website, social media, workshops and symposiums with reporting to the directors
    • Develop and maintain a roadmap of microbiome research for IMPACTT networking
    • Compile information and reports such as microbiome protocols for internal and external distribution to the microbiome community
  • Reporting:
    • Develop and maintain IMPACTT reporting systems
    • Ensures that the directors are kept up to date on all aspects of IMPACTT operations
    • Compile quarterly and ad hoc reports on IMPACTT operations for the directors and stakeholders
    • Report to the directors on meetings, reports and compliance with IMPACTT platform leads including education and ethics leads
  • Workshops and Symposiums:
    • Organizes and implements IMPACTT workshops and symposiums working with the International Microbiome Centre (IMC) team and the Education Committee
    • Manages logistics for IMPACTT workshops and symposiums with the IMC team and education committee
    • Ensures effective networking and promotion of workshops, symposiums and events
    • Communicate external microbiome events to the Directors
  • Administration:
    • Manages time independently and handles confidential information in a professional manner and with integrity

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • PhD Degree in biological science or related field
  • Minimum 5 years of microbiome research experience, post-PhD experience will be considered
  • Some expertise in project management highly desirable
  • A combination of education, training and experience may be considered
  • Proven strengths in written and oral communication and exceptional organizational skills are essential
  • Demonstrable trouble-shooting skills required
  • Perform detailed design, documentation, and implementation of highly complex technological systems in microbiome research following ethical standards
  • Demonstrated support for researchers through consultation and/or training on microbiome
  • Must be open to learning and development, and be willing to accept new challenges and assignments
  • High level of effectiveness in time and project management, supervisory skills, personal initiative and teamwork
  • Demonstrated communication, organization, innovation, and interpersonal skills with internal and external stakeholders
  • An excellent knowledge of research concepts of governance, record keeping, legal and ethics
  • Demonstrated proficiency in budgeting, resource planning and grant applications
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office
  • A positive attitude, self-motivated and the ability to work independently and as part of the team
  • Understanding of safety codes, technical equipment and quality assurance procedures, as related to specialization
  • Demonstrated high level of precision and accuracy is essential as the impact of error is high
  • Certification in WHIMS, biohazard handling will be required
