Position Overview

The Department of Surgery in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a EQuIS Research Coordinator.  This Fixed Term Full-time position is for approximately 12 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

The Equity, Quality, Innovation and Safety (EQuIS) Research Platform focuses on surgical safety in patients. Its mission is to improve the quality, safety, and equity of surgical care provided in Calgary, Canada, and internationally. The team is based at the University of Calgary and operates from the Alberta Children’s Hospital in the Calgary zone of Alberta Health Services (AHS). EQuIS represents a diverse group of clinical researchers, and is partnered with local, national, and international organizations dedicated to healthcare quality improvement.

The EQuIS Research Coordinator will be reporting to and receiving direction on their project(s) from the EQuIS Manager and the EQuIS Director. 

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Working closely with the EQuIS Manager and Senior Researcher, you will be responsible for the coordination and administration of research programs or projects

  • In collaboration with the EQuIS Manager and Senior Researcher, develop the structure, objectives, and policies of the research project, evaluating research activities and recommending improvements when appropriate

  • Working closely with the EQuIS Manager and Senior Researcher in the coordination of project resources

  • Within your research project, you will be responsible for coordinating pilot research staff, including the delegation of tasks and duties

  • Monitor and control of project deadlines and outcomes, and closeout of projects

  • Provide research support, produce reports, and administer research policies and procedures

  • Continuous improvement of workflow and projects: Recommending and implementing improvements as appropriate

  • Work closely with the EQuIS Manager and Senior Researcher in the development of documents and proposals for the purpose of presentation and publication

     

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree or Master’s Degree, preferably in a health-related field
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in research project coordination at multiple study sites
  • Experience piloting research protocol and guidelines
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Knowledge of theory and practical application of research policies and procedures
  • Ability to plan and direct research and administrative activities within a team environment
  • Ability to provide support to other members of the team and related units or teams
  • Ability to solve complex problems
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, Powerpoint)
  • Knowledge of research ethics and regulations for granting agencies (e.g. Tri Council)
  • Demonstrated proficiency in resource planning and grant applications
  • Demonstrated ability in professional writing, preparing reports and conducting literature reviews for the purpose of presentation and publication
  • Knowledge of EQuIS Research Platform in an asset
