Position Overview

The Department of Community Health Sciences in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Research Analyst This Fixed Term Fulltime position is for approximately 12 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

The position reports directly to the Principal Investigator(s). Their program of research aims to determine the economic burden of infectious diseases (e.g. COVID-19, bloodstream infections, surgical site infections) and antimicrobial resistance to the healthcare system and society; identifying best practices of screening for antimicrobial resistant organisms in hospitalized patients; and evaluating interventions to reduce inappropriate antimicrobial prescribing and healthcare-associated infections using secondary data sources.

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem solving skills as well as the ability to apply existing technical knowledge and experience to situations that arise in this role

  • Responsible for accessing and using large amounts of sensitive data and will require an extremely high level of care and detail to ensure that no identifiable data are mishandled

  • Ensure potentially identifiable data is handled following expected privacy and secure data management practices

  • Data cleaning and management of complex linked administrative data sets

  • Maintain accurate, timely, and complete documentation and records of analyses

  • Conduct a variety of analyses using different software and techniques, as required by the Project Investigators

  • Complete costing and economic evaluations and budget impact assessments

  • Timely delivery of analyses

  • Assists the Project Investigators by providing analytical support, including preparation of reports and presentations

  • Assembles data and prepares period and special report, manuals, metadata, and correspondence

  • Effectively communicate and enable best practices for administrative data analysis

  • Manage multiple projects to deliver on time in accordance with the team’s commitment to impact healthcare system change with evidence-informed research

     

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Masters of Science Degree in biostatistics, epidemiology, health economics or related field with significant experience working with administrative data
  • A minimum of 3 years of technical experience
  • Extensive experience in administrative data management and use
  • Experiences using one or more of Stata (preferred), SAS, or R
  • Expert knowledge of standard system software applications (e.g. MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint, MS Project, Visio)
  • Demonstrated strength in communication, interpersonal skills, and ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team
  • Strong organization skills, attention to detail, ability to take initiative, make decisions and troubleshoot problems
  • Knowledge of the University’s core business systems is desirable
  • Knowledge of health services research, secondary use of administrative data for research, health systems evaluation and monitoring and health informatics
  • Knowledge of Alberta’s health system and Canada’s health research environment
