Position Description
The Faculty of Science at the University of Calgary invites applications for a full-time Canada Research Chair (CRC) Tier I position in quantum computing in the area of Quantum Machine Learning. The successful candidate will be appointed as a Full Professor (with Tenure) position, and nominated for a CRC Tier I position, in the Department of Physics and Astronomy or the Department of Computer Science with cross appointments to related Departments possible. This position has an anticipated start date of July 1 2022 or later.
The successful candidate can join the Faculty of Science's Institute for Quantum Science and Technology, which comprises 17 faculty members and their research groups, and the Institute is a member of the Quantum Alberta consortium, which is a community of quantum scientists, technologists and engineers working in the Province of Alberta.
Tier I candidates: must hold a Ph.D. in physics, chemistry, computer science, mathematics, or related discipline and be an outstanding internationally recognized researcher in theoretical quantum information science; demonstrated leadership in the area of quantum machine learning; a highly successful track record of supervising graduate students and/or postdoctoral scholars; and a strong record of leading externally funded projects. Interdisciplinarity is an asset and industrial partnerships are encouraged.
Tier I Chairs are tenable for seven years and renewable once. Tier 1 Chairs are intended for outstanding and innovative world-class researchers whose accomplishments have made a major impact in their fields and who are recognized internationally as leaders in their fields.
