Position Overview

The Office of Advancement is currently seeking a Full-time Regular Associate Director, Alumni Programs.

This position reports to the Director, alumni Programs & Services, and is responsible for leading the alumni programming team in developing, implementing, and enhancing alumni programs for the University of Calgary alumni community. Alumni programming at the University of Calgary offers opportunities and resources for personal and/or professional development across all life-stages and to increase access for alumni to engage with and celebrate the University and one another.

The Associate Director, Alumni Programs will have primary responsibility to lead and support the development of core programming which includes life-stage and career development programs. This position will supervise current and future positions responsible for the delivery of event-based, digital, career and curated programs for the UCalgary alumni community. Primary objectives include:

  • Enhance programs to strengthen alumni connections to the university through a range of compelling, relevant programming (examples include Alumni All-Access, Life Kit for recent grads, Future Alumni Network, Skate with Santa, Community offers,  and Grow your Career Conference, etc.)
  • Develop and implement new programs to evolve opportunities for alumni to engage with the University of Calgary.
  • Build strong relationships across campus to enhance program offerings to the alumni community.
  • Improve knowledge of alumni experiences, needs and behaviours to better serve alumni and the university.

Hours of employment for this position are standard however some evening and weekend work is required.

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Direct the overall planning and implementation of core programming
  • Establish sound relationships and communication with faculty partners, departments and community partners to ensure program success
  • Ensure that organizational strategic priorities are being addressed through alumni programs
  • Leverage existing relationships and identify collaborative and partnership opportunities
  • Ensure program measurements and evaluations and analyze engagement in line with Alumni Engagement Scoring model data to recommend and test future program delivery in line with engagement objectives
  • Develop program plans and measurable objectives; ensure delivery of successful programming that is consistent with the current alumni strategy and the University’s Framework for Growth
  • Work with UCalgary Alumni colleagues and campus partners to establish budgets, strategies and tactics for delivering program content to alumni
  • Ensure programming is reflective and inclusive of the diversity of our alumni community, and works with colleagues across campus and community to ensure all alumni programming supports and reflects the University's EDI goals
  • Develop and empower direct reports to identify, create and execute high-quality programming opportunities for alumni to engage in
  • Understand the function of all direct report roles and work with Director, Alumni Programs & Partnerships to set deliverables in line with the current alumni strategy
  • Cultivate relationships with alumni and engage them in meaningful roles within alumni programming
  • Assist in the execution of specific aspects of faculty and departmental integrated alumni plans
  • May act as the primary relationship manager for assigned faculties, departments and communities of interest
  • Work closely with Communications colleagues to lead the development of strategic communications to achieve effective, consistent and meaningful communications for all alumni programming
  • Ensure that all messaging and communications are consistent with Alumni standards and strategic priorities
  • Analyze efficacy of communications plans and tactics to inform future communications strategies

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • University degree or college diploma, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of five years, experience in alumni engagement, community engagement, communications or a related field
  • Demonstrated leadership, creativity, resourcefulness and excellent ability in planning and communicating
  • Minimum of three years leading and developing teams
  • Experience managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment
  • Experience in program development, delivery and implementation
  • Demonstrated commitment and contributions to equity, diversity and inclusion
  • Strong fiscal management and budgeting skills
  • Well-developed project management skills with a strong attention to detail and demonstrated time management skills
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills and the ability to represent the University of Calgary in a professional manner
  • Must be flexible and have some ability to work outside of normal business hours
  • An understanding of working within a performance management culture
