Position Overview

Community Health Sciences in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for an Epidemiologist. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 12 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

Alberta SPOR Data and Research Services (DRS) Team is providing services to investigators. Some required functions include providing services regarding study designs, protocol development, and manuscript preparation. The Epidemiologist will work with DRS team to support requested projects.

Reporting to the Manager, Operations.

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Support and coordinate research activities such as consultations and project intakes
  • Engage in strategic planning for future of the team
  • Responsible for reporting on projects and producing final reports
  • Performs analyses within appropriate timelines, using their expertise with statistical software, meta-analysis techniques, or other relevant software for analyses
  • Assumes responsibility for data security, confidentiality, and data accuracy
  • Participates in an environment conducive to development and scientific research
  • Provides leadership in data science, epidemiology concepts, and related content
  • Functions with minimal supervision and communicates regularly with the team
  • Assist with plans and designs for specialized applications to meet the needs of operations, research, and services
  • Produce initial drafts of manuscripts for publication and appropriate scientific journals
  • Conduct literature review, surveys, data analysis and interpretation, laboratory experiments and other research for use in scholarly publications

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Master's-level degree in epidemiology, public health, or similar
  • Strong knowledge of epidemiology, epidemiological study design, and standard biostatistical analysis techniques; experience with survey data is a particular asset
  • Exceptional communication and coordination skills
  • Experience in report writing, reporting to Alberta Innovates an asset
  • 2 to 5 years of related technical experience within the research speciality field
  • 1 to 3 years of supervisory or leadership experience
  • Ability to perform detailed design, documentation, and implementation of moderately complex technological systems
  • Ability to provide technical support for other team members through advice on technical issues
  • Direct and demonstrable research experience in the subject matter of the research project is essential
  • Perform detailed design, documentation, and implementation of moderately complex technological systems
  • Recommend change to processes or procedures
  • Interact with other members of the team and undertake literature reviews
  • Extensive knowledge of theory and practical application of technical procedures and techniques
  • Demonstrated leadership, communication, organization, problem solving, and interpersonal skills
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint), Internet skills
  • Knowledge of University core business systems is desirable
