Position Description

Position title: Sessional Instructors, Winter 2022, DEPARTMENT OF GEOGRAPHY 

The Department of Geography in the Faculty of Arts invites applications for Sessional Instructors to teach the following courses in Winter 2022 (January 3, 2022 - April 29, 2022).  Please note that course offereings are tentative, pending sufficient enrolments:

  • GEOG 204: Global Environmental Change - Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays 9:00-9:50
  • GEOG 584/633: Advanced Remote Sensing - Web Based
  • GEOG 639: Advanced Spatial Analysis & Modeling - Web Based
  • GEOG 647: Advanced Res & Appl In Geog Info Syst - Web Based

Qualifications and Required Skills: 

  • PhD Geography, or a related discipline**
  • Experience teaching undergraduate courses at a university level

For salary information, please refer to TUCFA's Collective Agreement, Schedule B. As per the Collective Agreement, the Faculty of Arts adheres to the right of first refusal terms (Section 23.12.1 and 23.12.2) for Sessional Appointments.

  • Cover letter, which must contain:
    • The specific classes you would like to apply to teach
    • The maximum number of classes you are willing to teach per term
    • A brief outline of your qualifications for the classes applied for
  • Current CV that includes the names of three academic references
  • Optional teaching dossier including a teaching philosophy and evidence of teaching effectiveness

Proof of completion of PhD or PhD candidacy** and reference letters will be requested before an appointment is made. Elements other than the cover letter may be omitted if they are on file with the department and current. In this case, please indicate that they are on file in your cover letter.
**Doctoral students who have passed their candidacy exams 30 days before the course begins are eligible to apply. Please indicate in your letter of application the anticipated dates for completion of the candidacy exams.
