Position Overview

The Department of Medicine in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Clinical Research Assistant. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 1 year (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

This position reports to the Principal Investigator of the IMAGINE Project and the Director, of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Unit.

The Clinical Research Assistant will participate and assist the investigators and research coordinator with aspects of ongoing research, including recruitment and assessment of participants, and data entry under the IMAGINE study: Inflammation, Microbiome, and Alimentation: Gastro-Intestinal and Neuropsychiatric Effects: the IMAGINE-SPOR chronic disease network.

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Clinical and Administrative Research Support
    • Recruitment of patient associated to the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Clinic and the community-based practices
    • Continue with enrollment and ongoing study participation of both healthy and IBS/IBD patient population
    • Collect health records from electronic sources from Alberta Health Services
    • Manage the flow of study participants, including obtaining radiological appointments with other departments and adjusting time schedules for the patient with multiple deadlines to complete research visits
    • Participate in monthly meetings with other project sites across the country and assist in ensuring that the local site is up to date on any protocol modifications
    • Capturing meeting minutes and filing
    • Complete tasks in a timely and professional manner and take some accountability for local progress of the project
    • Complete case report forms on time and accurately
    • Data capturing, data processing, and data entry into an established computer database
    • Flexibility and the ability to meet deadlines and cope with the dynamic nature of clinical research are key
    • Able to prioritize tasks to comply with research protocol needs
    • Maintain patient confidentiality
    • Ensures that confidentiality of data collected and stored are maintained

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in health related field preferred
  • Post-secondary degree would be an asset
  • 2-3 years of related experience in the clinical research area
  • Demonstrated skills in data entry
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to deal with simultaneous priorities in an effective, efficient manner
  • Requires strong organizational and time management skills, accuracy, and strong attention to detail
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient information and medical records
  • Proficient computer skills; experience using Word, Reference Manager, Review Manager, Excel
  • Ability to work in a team environment and independently (with minimal supervision)
  • Ability to work successfully within a timeframe
  • Ability to self-motivate and take initiative
  • Outstanding communication skills (particularly verbal and interpersonal)
