Position Description
The Faculty of Kinesiology at the University of Calgary invites applications for emerging leaders in the area of Neuroscience, Brain Health and Exercise with an emphasis on the bidirectional relationships between brain health, cognition and physical health across the lifespan, for a Canada Research Chair (CRC), Tier II position. The successful candidate will be appointed at the rank of Assistant Professor (Tenure-track) and will be nominated for a CRC Tier II Chair. This is a full-time position with an anticipated July 2022 start date.
The successful candidate will bring a record of achievement commensurate with appointment at a Tier II Canada Research Chair and Assistant Professor level, have earned a PhD in Kinesiology, Brain Health, and/or related discipline and have demonstrated success in research publications and potential for securing external funding through national agencies such as CIHR, NSERC, and/or health or sport related agencies. The successful applicant will have an excellent emerging world-class research program with a life-cycle approach to human growth and development and an emphasis on the following: the relationship between brain health, cognition and physical health, neurobiological drivers of successful aging in both female and males with implcations for and treatment and prevention of various diseases, influence of exercise on development at any stage from birth to aging. The candidate will have the potential to become a leader in their research field with a plan for significant contribution to the Faculty of Kinesiology in high-quality undergraduate and graduate teaching, graduate student supervision and mentorship, training of postdoctoral fellows, and service. There is the possibility of a joint appointment within the University.
Tier II Chairs are intended for exceptional emerging scholars (i.e., candidates must have been an active researcher in their field for fewer than 10 years at the time of nomination). Candidates who are more than 10 years from having earned their highest degree and who have had career breaks, such as maternity, parental, or extended sick leave, clinical training, and research interruptions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, etc., may have their eligibility for a Tier II Chair assessed through the program’s Tier II justification process.
