Position Overview

The Department of Medicine in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Research Coordinator. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 1 year (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

This position reports to the Principal Investigator and is part of the Division of Rheumatology.  

This work requires research expertise related to project management, patient recruitment, analysis and knowledge translation of research studies. The person in this position is expected to work independently with minimal direction. The work period is primarily daytime hours, Monday to Friday for a total of 35 hours a week. The workload varies according to circumstances and the person will be expected to manage his or her time effectively to meet deadlines. Some travel may be required to meet with investigative teams or present research findings.

This position requires multi-site travel between UofC Medicine Foothills Campus and Richmond Road Diagnostic and Treatment Centre (RRDTC), and possibly the South Health Campus (SHC). The time spent at each site will vary according to the phase of research projects (e.g. patient recruitment). The majority of time will be spent at UofC Medicine Foothills Campus.
 

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Project management, with responsibility for producing deliverables on time and coordinating multiple research studies
  • Ethics approval and management (including initial REB application and maintaining records in IRISS)
  • Keeping electronic records of all study material including protocols, informed consent forms, questionnaires, renewals, modifications, etc.
  • Participant recruitment, accurate and timely collection and entry of data, data extraction and some data analysis
  • Maintaining accurate records of research participants’ clinic visits, follow up data capture and complete data entry forms, as needed
  • Developing and testing online surveys
  • Developing and maintaining good relationships with other project staff, (internal and external) co-investigators and collaborators
  • Preparing project management plans and ensuring all related documentation is organised and managed effectively (paper and electronic filing)
  • Supporting other members of the research team when research projects require additional input
  • Operating independently in carrying out assignments and projects, seeking guidance and consulting others when appropriate (e.g. contacting co-investigators and collaborators to request and obtain information in a courteous and timely manner)
  • Keeping others informed of the progress and status of projects
  • Contributing to preparation of research manuscripts to be submitted for publication and/or presentation
  • Participating in secure online data collection training programs, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality of patient information
  • In collaboration with the PI, develop the structure, objectives, and policies of the research project, evaluating research activities and recommending improvements when appropriate
  • Making recommendations and implementing change to methods, procedures, practices, and policies
  • Organizing time to ensure work is completed and important projects are on track
  • Anticipating problems proactively and developing preventative solutions
  • Embracing continual improvement

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • A Master's degree or higher in a health-related discipline is desirable. Applications from exceptional candidates with prior relevant experience but without formal Master's degrees will also be considered
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in a similar role
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Experience in project management with the ability to plan and direct research and administrative activities within a team environment
  • Superior organizational, time management, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work well independently (with minimal direction)
  • Ability to work on and organize multiple concurrent projects
  • Knowledge of research ethics and regulations
  • Experience in conducting systematic reviews and synthesizing relevant literature (experience with Cochrane reviews an asset)
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to accuracy and attention to detail
  • Demonstrated skills in academic scientific writing an asset
  • Experience in writing, coordinating and submitting proposals, reports and manuscripts an asset
  • Experience in preparing and delivering presentations to multiple stakeholder groups an asset
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • Specialized certifications: TCPS 2 and GCP are an asset
  • Fluent in English: listening, speaking, reading, and writing
