Position Overview
The Department of Health and Wellness in the Faculty of Kinesiology, is currently seeking a Full-time Regular Coordinator, Health and Wellness.
The Health and Wellness unit offers a wide range of programs and services to support individuals in the attainment of an improved quality of life and optimal health. Programs and facilities in this area include fitness centres, group fitness, adapted and rehabilitative programming, and personal and group training. Facilities and programming are available to students, faculty and staff, and the general public. The area is led by a team of health professionals that include Certified Exercise Physiologists and Kinesiologists.
The Group Fitness Class program offers a variety of 30-40 sections/term of instructor-lead group exercise classes.
The Personal Training programs offer a number of different services, including personal and group training, fitness assessment and counselling, delivered by part-time certified instructors.
TrymGym is a comprehensive group training and educational program designed to help participants make healthy modifications to their lifestyle in a supportive environment.
This position reports to the Manager, Health and Wellness. This position is based on a Monday to Friday, 7 hours per day work week though there will be times when overtime is required on weekends or evenings. Peak periods run September to April with planning ongoing throughout the year.
This position may involve moderate physical demands in relation to exercise demonstration and client interaction.
This position is responsible for coordinating the operations related to the Personal and Group Fitness Programs (which include one-on-one, small group, team training; TrymGym programs; and Group Fitness programs). Generally, this includes: scheduling and programming classes; assisting the Manager, Health and Wellness with hiring and training qualified staff; staff/program evaluations; customer service; teaching and instructing classes/training sessions; and day to day operations of the programs – all while operating within and being accountable to program area budgets.
The position holds responsibility in the coordination and supervision of approximately 40 personal trainers and instructors, as well as practicum students. The incumbent represents the University of Calgary Health and Wellness programs, the Faculty, and the Active living portfolio when conducting business within the University and in the community.
