The Department of Cardiac Sciences and Radiology in the Cumming School of Medicine at the University of Calgary is accepting applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar in the Personalized Diagnaostics Program (PDP) at the Stephenson Cardiac Imaging Centre.
Job Description:
The Personalized Diagnostics Program (PDP) at the Stephenson Cardiac Imaging Centre is a leading academic program of the Libin Cardiovascular Institute, University of Calgary, located at the foothills of the Canadian Rocky Mountains. Our dynamic research team is seeking highly motivated postdoctoral scholars with experience in machine learning and medical diagnostics to support a multi-year strategic expansion of our AI-focused program in patient-specific risk modelling. This work is supported by grant funding from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) and leverages established large-scale data resources of the Cardiovascular Imaging Registry of Calgary (CIROC).
The Stephenson Cardiac Imaging Centre is one of the largest cardiac imaging clinical programs in North America, benefiting from 2 dedicated facilities performing over 4,000 cardiac MRI studies per year. The PDP was launched in 2015 to engage patients in facilitating the collection of diagnostic testing and multi-domain electronic health data for the delivery of novel clinical decision support interventions. Through established partnerships with the departments of biomedical engineering and computer science at the University of Calgary and Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute (amii.ca) the PDP leverages value from the CIROC Registry, an initiative providing access to over 25,000 cardiac MRI studies, 12,000 cardiac CT studies and matched longitudinally to electronic health information inclusive of patient-reported measures of health.
We are recruiting for several funded postdoctoral scholarship positions to expand our team’s efforts exploring machine learning based methodologies to solve clinically impactful questions in cardiovascular medicine. Successful candidates will require in-depth experience in computer programming, machine learning (inclusive of deep learning) as well as foundational knowledge in bioinformatics. Background experience in cardiovascular datasets and / or electronic health record data is an asset but is not required.
