Position Description

The Department of Production Animal Health, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, in partnership with One Health at UCalgary (OH@UC), University of Calgary, invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level in Antimicrobial Resistance with a One Health approach. The selected candidate will be nominated for a Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) Tier II Canada Research Chair (CRC) in Antimicrobial Resistance with a One Health approach.

Applicants must have a PhD degree or equivalent, at least 2 years of post-doctoral experience (or equivalent), and outstanding research productivity as evidenced by a strong publication record in the area of antimicrobial resistance. A DVM (or equivalent) degree is highly desirable. The candidate will be expected to develop an internationally recognized extramurally funded research program (75% of time devoted to research) on any aspect of antimicrobial resistance. In addition, the candidate will also contribute to teaching and graduate student supervision. A competitive year-round salary and an attractive start-up package will be provided. The candidate will have access to state-of-the-art core infrastructure.

The successful candidate will have unique opportunities for collaboration with a multidisciplinary and cross-faculty team of researchers at the UCVM and OH@UC. Current areas of research emphasis in OH@UC include infectious diseases and the microbiome, healthy ecosystems, healthy communities, and antimicrobial resistance. Co-location of UCVM and the Cumming School of Medicine facilitates collaboration with researchers in human health. Furthermore, there is also potential for collaboration with other faculties at the University of Calgary, University of Alberta, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada Research Centers, and other institutions and groups across Canada.

Tier II Chairs are intended for exceptional emerging scholars (i.e., candidates must have been an active researcher in their field for fewer than 10 years at the time of nomination). Candidates who are more than 10 years from having earned their highest degree and who have had career breaks, e.g., maternity, parental, or extended sick leave, clinical training, or research interruptions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, etc., may have their eligibility for a Tier II Chair assessed through the program's Tier II justification process. For information, contact UCalgary's Office of Research Services ([email protected]). Further information regarding the Canada Research Chairs Program, including eligibility, is on the Government of Canada's CRC website.
