Be part of an ambitious university

UCalgary is Canada’s entrepreneurial university, located in Canada’s most enterprising city. It is a top research university and one of the highest-ranked universities of its age. Founded in 1966, its 36,000 students experience an innovative learning environment, made rich by research, hands-on experiences and entrepreneurial thinking. It is Canada’s leader in the creation of start-upsStart something today at the University of Calgary. For those of us who work here, this means an incredible opportunity to change the world for the better.

But we like to play just as hard as we work. Here are a few of the things that put the “life” in “work/life balance”.

Benefits and Rewards

Our goal is to offer a work environment that promotes the health and wellness of our employees and also supports them in their personal lives. To that end, we have comprehensive benefit programs, a variety of opportunities and supports in place for learning, and an inclusive Employee and Family Assistance Program offering a wide variety of immediate and confidential support to employees and their family - just to name a few. For more information on all that we have to offer, access the specific staff pages listed below:

Vibrant and dynamic city

We are located in Calgary, a city of innovators and entrepreneurs. It’s a place where creative thinking and hard work are rewarded, reflecting the values we hold dear. Calgary is one of the world’s cleanest cities and has been named one of the world's most livable cities for years. The people who live here are among Canada’s most educated and together, form one of the nation’s most diverse urban populations. Calgarians are known for their community-mindedness and generous spirit, with more volunteers in Alberta than the national average. Just a stone’s throw from the majestic Rocky Mountains and hosting a growing number of world-class restaurants and cultural events, Calgary offers a great living experience, including access to the most extensive urban pathway and bikeway network in North America.

Diversity

Different voices at the table are critical for a strong and dynamic university. Diversity, equity and inclusion are deeply valued at the university and are integral to the safety and wellness of our campus community. The Office of Diversity, Equity and Protected Disclosure is a dedicated resource that handles individual and institutional issues, and works to ensure a welcoming space for students, faculty and staff through advanced education, research and counsel. Events like Diversity Week, Pluralism Week and resources through the Faith and Spirituality Centre, the Writing Symbols Lodge, Student Accessibility Services, the Q Centre, and the Women’s Resource Centre contribute to a campus that is full of different ideas and spaces for everyone.

Employee health and wellness

We understand the importance of providing a healthy workplace and ensuring appropriate services are available for employees to deal with all of life's challenges while helping them be productive and focused at work. WellBeing and WorkLife offers programs and services that promote healthy living, a healthy work environment, and respect the employee's life outside of work as well as their working life.

The Campus Mental Health Strategy is a commitment to the mental health and well-being of our university family. We have been implementing the 28 recommendations in a number of ways. We are implementing the National Standard for Psychological Health and Safety in the Workplace as a commitment to a culture that promotes and supports mental health and wellbeing.

Park-like campus

We joke about how often we say “park-like setting”, but that’s because it’s true – tons of green spaces, trees and ponds make for a beautiful main campus. And it’s larger than Calgary’s entire downtown. There are plenty of amenities and world-class attractions on our main campus, and easy access to transit for when you want to venture further afield.

Our other campuses, located both near (e.g. Downtown campus) and far (e.g. Doha, Qatar), offer a number of amenities and great surroundings for employees to enjoy.

Life-long learning

Part of the university working experience includes access to a mix of professional and personal learning and growth opportunities. Our Tuition Support Program is just one way we support our employees and their family’s life-long learning goals. The options are virtually endless - everything from business seminars to photography, languages to cuisine, and interior design to literature. Whether you take advantage of programs in management and leadership offered through our human resources team or drop in on a lecture, opportunities for learning abound.

Performing arts

Each year, students, faculty and guest artists present over 200 concerts and staged performances at the School of Creative and Performing Arts. Our events comprise a dazzling range of movement, music, emotions and ideas. With so many dance, drama and music performances to experience, we know that there is something for everyone to enjoy. Learn more about upcoming events.
